Theoretics, a seven-piece outfit combining MCs with a live band, has been enriching the Northwest for four years with their unique blend of hip hop, soul, electronica, funk, and masterful lyrics. The collaboration of vocalists Mark Hoy and Chimaroke Abuachi with saxophonist Art Brown, guitarist Cameron Peace, keyboardist Ben Krulewich, bassist Birch Pereira, and drummer Adam Gross breaks from the traditional beat-maker + MC format and offers a wider diversity of sound. Members of the band combine ideas in rehearsal jams that are recorded and combed through for the perfect beats, breaks, and hooks. The result is a hip hop sound unlike any other.
The past year has been all about expansion and exposure for Theoretics. They’ve been wowing crowds at Photosynthesis 5.0, Bumbershoot 2012, and their EP release at the Showbox Market (with 700+ in attendance). The band has also been pushing to evolve its sound and incorporate new instruments and technologies into their music, as featured in their new EP Plenty of Anything. Theoretics continues to explore and evolve as they generate material for their upcoming second full-length album.
