Tim Malchak
On a hot July night in 1999, Tim Malchak was broken and lost when he was reborn, confessing his sins to God and receiving Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. The events leading up to that night took 42 years to unfold.......
Born in upstate NY and raised in a middle class factory working family. Tim became serious about music when, as a standout tackle in high school, a football injury put to rest any dreams of playing in college. After graduating high school and traveling the country, living on both coasts and a few places in between, he finally settled in Nashville TN in 1983.
Tim first came to be known in the music industry during the eighties with a string of top 40 hit singles in Billboard’s Country Music Charts. Songs like his self-penned “Colorado Moon” and “Restless Angel” helped to establish him as a gifted and influential singer/songwriter. Later, in 1987 he was honored once again by Billboard Magazine as one of the Top Ten New Country Artists of that year. All while on an independent record label, Alpine Records. In 1988 he signed a major label record deal with MCA/Universal Records and in May of 1989 his critically acclaimed album “Different Circles” was released. During that time he shared the stage with a veritable who’s who of country artists of that decade. People like Vince Gill, Alison Krause, Kenny Rogers, Emmylou Harris, Barbara Mandrell, Willie Nelson, and the list goes on. In 1993 Tim appeared on Farm Aid VI in Ames Iowa that was viewed by over 200 million viewers on TNN. But all was not as it seemed........
Tim’s lifestyle was very destructive to an artist and ultimately left him without a record deal. His struggle with drugs and the battle to hide it from the public left him depressed and at his lowest point found himself in a hotel room with a loaded .38 caliber pistol to his head. Unable to pull the trigger he gathered himself together and started making plans for a change. Tim moved to South Carolina in 1992 and was still struggling with a void and emptiness left after so many years of chasing an elusive dream. Several more years passed, and in the process, by the grace of God, he became free from the addictions that had consumed his life in many ways. And yet, something was still missing......
Then came that hot July night in 1999.
Driving down a dark Kentucky highway, feeling like a battered ship adrift at sea, the words to a song, "The Anchor Holds" spoke so loudly to him that his soul was convicted and he finally realized his need for a Savior. Knowing that one day he would die and have to stand in judgment for the sins he was guilty of. There on that highway Tim committed his life to Christ.
Soon after that Tim felt the call to ministry and to use the gifts God had given him for the glory of His Kingdom.
In 2001 Tim recorded his 7th album and first Christian project “Pathway To Glory” on his own Parable Records™ label. That album helped to launch Tim Malchak Ministries, a concert ministry, "Dedicated to winning the lost to Christ by the sharing of our faith through music, witness, and testimony.” Since then his ministry has expanded into prisons, leading worship for inmates and using his music and testimony to share the light of the Gospel and the hope of salvation. In December of 2003 his long awaited follow-up CD “Servant’s Heart” was released and yielded a Top-Ten Single with United Christian Broadcasters in the UK. In September 2005 he released his third Christian project, “Be My Peace”. In 2007, with the release of his 4th Christian CD “Boundless”, Tim’s commitment to writing Christ-exalting songs emerged in a project that has most definitely challenged and changed hearts, bringing people to an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ with music that is uplifting and encouraging. Presently he has just finished writing and recording another body of work that promises to be some of the most worshipful praise music God has given him. His 5th Christian CD "Sovereign King" is due to be released in early May 2010. Tim’s prayer is that God will continue to use him not only as a worship leader at his church in Hilton Head SC, but as an instrument for leading the lost to Christ and that his music will be a Godly witness and a catalyst for revival everywhere it is heard!
