Tin Can Phone is an Austin-based rock/reggae group developing a signature sound that’s all their own. TCP’s live shows bring a house party feel, and deliver a positive message on topics including politics, destiny, and run-ins with the law. Their new full-length album “Adapter” is set for release on the First of November, 2011.
It all started in 2007 when Matt Rusin (rhythm/vox) and Josh Nicholson (lead guitar) moved from Michigan to Austin with plans to start a reggae band with Matt’s cousin, Tyler Rusin (bass, backing vox). Bert Mesa (drums) moved from Michigan to join the group soon after they released their debut EP, which has sold briskly on iTunes and at live shows. The band also released a 15-song free demo that has spread beyond their control.
At a Tin Can Phone show, you always have this feeling that you are getting away with something. A feeling that at some point the real world will show up and pull you back to reality. The combination of Matt’s excellent songwriting, Bert and Tyler’s solid rhythm section, and Josh’s “icing on the cake” lead guitar work are enough to make everyone get up and move.
Tin Can Phone travels extensively throughout the region, exciting crowds from Denton to Corpus Christi to New Orleans, and has shared the stage with such great bands as Passafire, The Wailers, Eleven Fingered Charlie, and the Voodoo Glow Skulls. With the release of “Adapter”, a DIY home-studio project that beautifully captures the band’s live sound and energy, Tin Can Phone is set to catch some big waves in the near future.
