Todd Norian, a musician and international yoga teacher, was trained in western classical music and jazz. He started taking piano lessons at age 8, had his own jazz/rock band at age 11, and played gigs all throughout high school and college. He attended summer music camps at Blue Lake and Interlocken in Michigan, and the Eastman Jazz Summer Programs in Rochester, NY. He received a Bachelor's degree in Studio Music and Jazz at University of Miami in 1982 and gigged extensively around the Miami area. In 1980, he began practicing yoga and in 1983 moved to Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, at that time in PA, where he learned to chant kirtan and play the harmonium. He moved to Lenox, MA and continued his yoga studies at Kripalu. He formed the Shakti Fusion Band which became the "house" Kripalu band, a blend of jazz/rock/fusion/reggae/world beat/Sanskrit chanting music. He continues to chant kirtan whenever he teaches yoga.
Todd teaches yoga with the deepest intention to awaken others to their creative potential of unlimited joy, vitality, and fulfillment. Cofounder of Ashaya Yoga, Todd's style is a blend of precise biomechanical alignment infused with heart, and he excels at making deep philosophical teachings accessible to all. With warmth and humor, Todd creates a space of sublime transformation in which students can step into the power of their own heart and spirit. Todd studied Iyengar Yoga for 3 years, lived, studied, and became a yoga teacher-trainer at Kripalu Center for 13 years; and taught Anusara Yoga for 15 years, becoming a highly respected senior certified teacher. He continues to study extensively with several tantric scholars, including Professor Douglas Brooks and Paul Muller-Ortega.
