Tom Morley

Biography

As a classical, Celtic, and folk musician and educator, Tom is one of the most visible violinists on the Gulf Coast. Classically trained with a degree in music education, Tom has earned a living with his violin in every musical direction. He has played professionally in Celtic, Cajun, folk, bluegrass, classical, swing, jazz, and country styles (earning a gold album for his work with ‘new traditionalist’ country artist John Anderson). His recently released solo CD, The Raven’s Wing, showcases his playing in many of these genres. As an Irish/Celtic fiddler, Tom has made multiple trips to Ireland to perform and research traditional Irish music, playing alongside legendary musicians including Tommy Peoples, Manus McGuire, Kevin Burke, and Liz Carroll. He leads a series of successful Irish Fiddle workshops and Irish Trad Slow Sessions and will teach Irish& Old-Time Fiddle as a faculty member of the prestigious Mark O’Connor String Method Camp in Charleston, SC in Aug. 2011. He is co-founder of Mithril and has toured with that group throughout the US, often featured as guest artists with symphony orchestras. Tom is a certified Mark O’Connor String Method teacher and an endorser for Barcus-Berry electric violins. Read more about Tom at www.thefiddlecenter.com.
