Tom Taylor (www.tom-taylor.com) is an internationally known guitarist, composer, and recording artist. His music is a hybrid of jazz, classical and rock, and it even includes a dash of blues and bluegrass. As a composition student, Tom studied with Lou Harrison and with the appropriately named avant-garde composer, Alan Strange. Tom developed his jazz playing as a 21-year-old draftee touring the Midwest with the 81st Army Show Band out of Chicago, a better gig than the infantry.
Tom has performed with such diverse talents as Frankie Avalon, Bob Hope, Tiny Moore (original mandolinist in Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys), Toshiko Akioshi, and Phil Woods and most recently with trumpet virtuoso Bobby Shew.
Tom’s own music is heard on radio stations and performed around the world and includes guest artists the Kronos Quartet, Turtle Island String Quartet, and mandolin virtuoso David Grisman. In February the Mission Chamber Orchestra of San Jose will perform his Ishi Sings for Chamber Orchestra and Archival Recording. Tom’s music is available on Amazon.com, iTunes, CDBaby.com, and on his web site.
Tom is also the jazz guitar instructor and director of the Tiger Jazz Ensemble for Colorado College.
