Tone Dogs

Tone Dogs started when bassist Fred Chalenor invited multi-instrumentalist Amy Denio to poke around in a beautiful recording studio. They spent one weekend collaborating on songs, and then went into Dogfish Studios in Newburg Oregon, to start working with engineer Drew Canulette. Fred had accumulated some credit at the studio, and soon Drew was enthusiastic about their recording progress.

As they began recording 'Ankety Low Day,' Fred and Amy invited friends to participate, so Matt Cameron played drums on many tracks, and Fred Frith, Hans Reichel, Courtney von Drehle and Bob Bain also appeared. Ankety Low Day was originally released by C/Z Records in Seattle, and was nominated to be nominated as best new recording in 1987. Amy thought the call from the Grammy Office was a hoax, but it wasn't...

As the band began touring in the US and also in eastern & western Europe, between 1988-1991, the personnel changed a few times, stabilizing into a trio with Fred and Amy, and Will Dowd on drums and percussion. Their 5th and final bleak Europe tour in November 1991 broke the band apart, one of those epic stories where every day something drastically difficult happened, and all the musicians just went their separate ways.

Rumours abound of Tone Dogs reunion - keep posted!
