Tony Mckenzie

Biography

I am continuing to develop my style of music which can be found on this site, it's hard driving, modern and definately makes a musical statement.

Musically I prefer to work without the incumbencies of other regular band members except some great drummers, bass players and singers when required.

I've been playing guitar since the late 60's. When I first left school and used to think that the Beatles were god.... (they still are if you check out the song writing) that is until one day when listening to the radio a certain drone called voodoo chile caught my attention and changed my way of thinking about music forever.

From that point on I decided what to do - play rock guitar, so over the coming years I have listened to people like Santana, Hendrix, Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore and many other guitarists at the forefront of the art of electric guitar.

I have played with many other musicians (as well as many previous bands) and continues to write and play my own style of rock guitar as a solo recording artist.

My style of guitar and my 'sound' is now available on my album 'Eniac' and on 'Berner Street' which is now available world wide - by electronic download from thousands of sites - or directly from your record store. Once you have heard my sound it's likely that you will know me when you hear me in future - it's a great sound that took literally years to develop.

Music on the Eniac Album goes from cool laid back lead guitar work (such as on 'Metropolis', through '6278' which has some great vocals, and through 'No Logic' which Horst langer (Engl Amp Designer) thought was amazing guitar. The No Logic Track used Engl Amps.

I am currently working with Alan Bruce - a really great Bass guitarist, lyricist and singer and we are now developing the next thing to follow on from the Eniac album which is available to buy on itunes, cdbaby and many other online stores - just search for tony mckenzie eniac. The new album is a real cool piece of work with the album completed in 2008 (Berner Street).

I use mainly an Ibanez Jem as well as a Gibson Les Paul Jimmy Page Model guitar but also I use a PRS Custom 24 that was made for me by PRS at the end of the 80's, a Les Paul Classic Premium Plus. Other interesting guitars which I use are an Ibanez S540 Custom Shop model and an Ibanez S550 as well as a Gibson Tie Dye Les Paul.

For amplification my main choice used to be a Mesa Boogie TriAxis and 2:90 power amp with a TC Electronics G Major for live effects and a Rocktron Intellifex to help further enhance the sound palette available for live gigs.

I also now use a Marshall TSL100 watt and 4x12.

Other Current amplification is an Engl E670 for the sounds on the 'ENIAC' album and the 'Berner Street' Album to which you can listening to now on CDbaby which was my 2006 to 2008 sound, but I now also use a Splawn Nitro, A Customised Marshall JVM410 (to get rid of that awful 4th channel red mode squeal which some people like to say can be controlled - I controlled mine and redesigned part of the amp :-) and among other things a TC Electronic G-System which is awesome once you get over the technicalities of it all).

VISIT WWW.MYSPACE.COM/BERNERSTREET to check out other information on the Berner Street 2008 album. Some are not generous with their great reviews... but we all know what/how reviewers are don't we? I guess if we paid them enough... but who cares - the music speaks louder than any reviewer could ever do.

I'm now working on a new album for 2010/11 and it will reflect the music I currently have floating around in my head... probably of the rock styles on many of my older tracks - which was a very melodic instrumental rock. It's likely if you like any of the stuff on these pages then you will like the new album.
