UEM was formed in June of 2006 by William Harrington and Jilli Dart. At the time, they performed material form Harrington's first cd, Urban Electronic Music - plus other original tracks. The name "UEM" - derived from "Urban Electronic Music" - first appeared on fliers for their shows in the LA area. In 2007, they were joined by Andy Sykora. After performing at the first annual Make Music New York, Jilli Dart decided to leave in order to pursue other projects. The current line up of Harrington/Sykora continues to explore experimental music/noise using instruments, electronics, found objects, the human voice, gongs and miscellaneous percussion.
UEM has performed at many festivals and theaters including Norcal NoiseFest, Soundwalk, Eagle Rock Music Festival, Eugene Noise Festival, 29 Palms Experimental Festival, ResBox @ the Steve Allen Theater, the REDCAT Theater in the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Make Music Pasadena, plus many more.
