BIOGRAPHY
Underground music has always been on the creative, cutting edge of the music scene, always a fresh and intriguing experience, and perhaps the freshest additions to this musical genre are known as techno music, electronic music and house music. In the field of electronic music a name to check out is Unsel Brown. This is attested to by the many and varied cds which he has produced.
Unsel Brown began his music career as a Detroit Dj in the mid 80’s remixing the works of other artists. He became fascinated with the artistic process of techno music and moved to underground scene. There he produced several underground music projects such as “Twilight Scenario by Jeff Mills.
Unsel Brown’s hometown of Detroit is considered by many to be where techno music began. This form of electronic music uses such devices as drum machines and analog music synthesizers to create uniquely exciting and compelling sounds which are first and foremost danceable. With the flourishing of dance clubs in the 80’s and their reawakening in the nineties, it is to this dance quality which some contribute techno music’s great popularity.
Still, Unsel Brown, moving forward artistically, has been able to transcend from techno music to House Music. Originating in Chicago and quickly spreading around the world, House has combined origins in electronic music and disco with shades of soul and funk. With its upbeat tempos and strong back beat, simulating discos pronounced base drum with electronic drums, House music very much lends itself to the appeal of dance clubs. A good example of his move to House is Brown’s “Any Sign”.
It is particularly appealing with the smooth addition of strings, guitar and a female vocal by Madelynne Olivia Brown.
Unsel Brown’s creative musical inventions are considered an important contribution to the Detroit techno music and house music scene as well as to American music as a whole.
