Upstate

Biography

Upstate is an indie-folk quartet from Dayton, Ohio and Denver, Colorado and the continuation of the Dishwater Psychics recording project. When Dishwater took a break in 2001, Upstate formed by adding guitarist James Focht and drummer Jamie Heaps. The combination of indie rock sensibilities, jam band rhythms and hard-rock guitars produced a melodic, textured backdrop of haunting melodies and driving beats. The songs for its first release, "Missing: The Official Soundtrack," were written and recorded from 2002-2003 and produced and engineered by Dan Miller in Dayton, Ohio. The band also released three new songs on FPM's first compilation disc in 2006, including " Appointed to Fail," " Whatever it Wants to Be" and " Sleeping Cup."The comp songs led to the limited edition 2006 EP " Bitter Grin," which features the comp tracks, the title track, and two more unrelased songs. Like all the other Friendly Psychics bands, Upstate records its songs using the long-distance mail route, never having practiced or played together in the same room.
