Billy Vassar Barbee II is a new and upcoming independent experimental rock artist currently going by the name of VASSAR. Billy or VASSAR AGE:30, has known music for most of his life. Having taken piano lessons as a small boy, he later found his love for playing the guitar and singing. He later in his early teenage years played in hard core rock bands one of which he started called PURGE. Growing up in a small suburban town called Crete right outside of Chicago, he and the band members played original songs he had written in their shows including playing a fund raising concert for his highschool Crete Monee, and playing at the University of Illinois Chicago. Playing shows for the bored angst teenagers and starting a small musical scene, the music consisted influences mainly of rock bands like The cure, Tool, Helmet, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Smashing pumpkins and SonicYouth. Billy wrote all of the songs and had the band record them using 4 and 8 track recorders. PURGE has a number of musical recordings, including one done along side with producer Ron White with a full length CD at Super Sounds Studios."PUGE has a great feel for dynamics, knows the importance of musical inventiveness, and they follow their own muse. One listen and you'll agree." Quoted from Ed Hogan Journalist.
Billy Vassar Barbee II has ventured out on his own for a solo career in music.VASSAR is currently attending The Illinois Institute of Art Chicago to pursue his Bachelor's degree in Science for Audio Production. VASSAR is now promoting his new album called VASSAR "The Speed of Sound." Billy has written, produced, performed and recorded the album himself using the skills he has learned so far as a collage student and an independent artist. With Influences of groups like The Chemical Brothers, M.I.A, Depeche Mode and Ministry, Billy is interested in the workings of the music business and would like his own career as an Audio engineer and musician. Billy states this about his own music."Music for me is kind of like a science.Good music seems to adhere to some kind of formula that everyone can love and listen to, it can be classified as classical or typical modern music. At this time in age, my experiment for me is to make good music and to blend all those kinds of music and the musicians togather from all over the ages to hear what comes out. What would it sound like? Its funny, I am the subject and also the stimuli!" "His smooth performance and deep lyrics will tell a story and take you on a ride that only true lovers of music will appreciate, respect and truly enjoy. This guy really gives it."
