Van Decker

Van Decker, Ph.D., has retired from teaching music. He taught first at San Dieguito
HS Academy (5yrs) and Imperial Valley College (15yrs). He now dedicates his time to composing,
recording and also some performing with various jazz & rock groups in the San Diego and the
Imperial Valley (CA).

He holds both a Masters Degree (CSULB) and a Doctorate (UCSD) in music
composition. Over the years his compositions have been performed by many
different ensembles including: The Lansing Symphony Orchestra, The CSULB
Steel Drum Ensemble, The CSULB Master Chorale and The UCSD New Music
Student Ensemble and the UCSD Concert Band.
Also, his songs and guitar playing can be heard in two films by William
Malone: "Fear Dot Com" and "Parasomnia". Born in Michigan, Van began as
the lead guitarist for "The Plagues" and shortly after, he formed Michigan's own,
"Plain Brown Wrapper”.
