Vidya Subramanian (www.vidyasubramanian.com) is an experienced Carnatic Vocalist. A disciple of Padmabhushan Lalgudi Sri Jayaraman since 1993, Vidya has performed concerts extensively in India and the USA. Vidya teaches vocal music for students of all levels and has recently relocated to Chennai from the USA. Vidya leverages modern technology as well as traditional teaching styles to train students from all over the world over the internet. She also has available pre-recorded lesson CDs. She had her initial training under Smt. Rukmini Rajagopalan in Chennai.
Vidya is also a top academic achiever. Her concert for 2011’s Rama Navami series organized by the prestigious Sree Rama Seva Mandali in Bangalore, India was selected for a special award. She was also awarded the 2010 Artist grant award by Saratoga Arts and New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) under the Saratoga Program for Arts Funding, the Town of Clifton Park, NY’s 2009 Arts Grant and SOS (Strategic Opportunity Stipend) Artist Grants by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and Arts Center of the Capital Region for 2009, 2010 and 2011. Vidya was profiled in the Albany Times Union, The Saratogian, The Record, Saratoga County community news and Courier Journal newspapers in 2009 and 2010. Vidya has won several accolades and prizes from leading organizations such as Madras Music Academy, Indian Fine Arts Society, Mylapore Fine Arts Society and Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha. In 2009, Vidya performed for the Queens Public Television TV Channel in a program on Indian music that was telecast in the New York city metropolitan area. She was interviewed as a special guest on “Vanakkam Tamizhagam”, SUN TV’s Breakfast show in January 2006. Her performances have been organized by sabhas such as Music Academy, Mylapore Fine Arts Society, Brahma Gana Sabha, Kartik Fine Arts, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and at several temples in India and also at Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, India Cultural Center-University of Utah, Learnquest Academy of Music-Boston, Pallavi-Albany, Hindu Temple – Florida, Fine Arts Association of Arizona and Cornell University.

In the 2010 December season, Vidya has performed for Shanti Arts Foundation and Endowments and Sri Kapali Fine Arts. She has performances coming up for Nada Sudha in Velachery on Dec 28th and RA Puram Bhakta Jana Sabha on Jan 7th.
