Walter Williams

Walter Williams, Sr. a native of Canton, OH began his musical career at McKinley High School in Canton, OH where in 1958, Walter teamed up with his best friend Eddie Levert and began singing gospel on a Canton Ohio radio station. Walter and Eddie were joined by three high school buddies, William Powell, Bobby Massey and Bill Isles and formed the group the “Triumphs”, which was renamed “The Mascots” and then finally “The O'Jays", in tribute to radio disc jockey Eddie O'Jay. Although The O’Jays have changed members throughout the years, the founders and lead singers Walter and Eddie have remained constant with Walter providing the smooth lead vocals while Eddie provides the harsher deeper toned lead. In 2003, while appearing in the movie “The Fighting Temptations”, Mr. Williams teamed up with Beyonce Knowles, recording the duet “He Still Loves Me” as part of the movie’s soundtrack. Mr. Williams currently lives in Cleveland, OH and while concerts and studio work keep him very busy, his passion is golfing in his spare time. Among his many awards and recognitions, Walter Williams, Sr. was inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and most recently awarded The BET Lifetime Achievement Award. Throughout the years, Walter kept toying with the thought of a solo project, considering different pieces, trying to find the perfect blend of classics that would be the right fit for his gifted voice. It took some years, but the day has arrived and Walter Williams’s project is complete. Say’s Walter, “I think I’ve found what I consider to be a great collection of classics, I chose these songs because 1) I really love them and have since I first heard them years ago and 2) I truly believed that I could do them justice in the studio. Well, I think I have and I hope that the listeners think so too!”. “Walter Williams – Exposed” is Walter Williams, Sr's first solo project. Ten of the twelve songs are the classics that Walter spoke of. Mr. Williams added his song writing signature to the CD by including two of his original works, ‘It’s Raining Outside’ (written by Walter Williams, Sr., Walter I. Ray, Jr. and Al Johnson of the Unifics) and ‘There’s No Doubt’. The CD is anchored by the timeless classic ‘My Way’ in which Walter’s O’Jays partner and lifelong friend Eddie Levert Sr. lends his vocals. To avoid any confusion, Walter Williams states, “This is a pet project of mine that has been a long time coming and I am excited that this day has finally come. The O’Jays will continue to be my priority and we plan to perform as long as God blesses us to. My hope is that this new project will bring additional listening pleasure to our loyal fans as well as an appreciation of music lovers of all genres for my rendition of these timeless classics.”
