Formed in 1966, the Western Australia Police Pipe Band proudly serves the community of Western Australia. The band performs a dual role – the main part of which is spent performing and rehearsing, while during the band’s ‘down time, members provide a support role by working in various sections of WA Police.
The band performs for many Government and community organisations throughout WA in addition to its ceremonial duties within WA Police. The band runs a highly successful schools program, performing annually at more than 40 primary schools throughout the State, and also at many charity and other events.
The band travels interstate or overseas to attend larger competitions or to take part in events such as the Edinburgh Tattoo in Sydney or the Australian Pipe Band Championships. All funds required for these endeavours are raised in band member’s own time and attendance is achieved at no cost to Government, as all required funds are facilitated by the band’s supporter’s association and the ‘Friends of the Band’ program.
Other events the band performs at include:
Schools awareness programmes
Metropolitan and Regional Town Shows
Federal and State Government engagements
Australia Surf Life Saving Championships and various sporting events
Currently the band is the 2012 Australian Grade 1 Champion pipe band.
