The YAMPA VALLEY BOYS are in their twelfth year of delighting audiences. They have logged over 1,500 performances together. Their friendly, infectious stage presence reaches out to any audience-—no matter the size-—to make their show seem as intimate as a campfire sing-along.
Steve is a singer-songwriter. He has written many of the songs recorded by the Yampa Valley Boys, including 5 new songs on the “Playin' Cowboy Music” CD and 2 songs on "Second Guard". One of Steve’s songs has charted in the “Top Ten” on the Academy of Western Artists ratings chart for western song in the spring of 2007. Steve plays guitar and bass. His "strong, melodious tenor voice" is featured in many songs. He also does harmony vocals, poems and stories.
John plays a 5-String banjo in the old time frailing style. In addition to mandolin and octave mandolin, he plays resonator guitar in our shows. He does lead and harmony vocals, and spins tall tales in story and poem.
The Yampa Valley Boys have been named in the top 5 finalists for the WMA Crescendo Award in 2007 and 2009. In 2010 they were in the top 5 finalists for the "Duo of the Year" award.
In their live show, you will take a journey back to the old west. It will feature all acoustic music, plus stories and poems about the cowboy---his ways, his life, his humor, his horse (of course!) and, sometimes, his favorite cowgirl. Formatted as an old time radio show, yet as intimate as a campfire sing-along, the YAMPA VALLEY BOYS will bring you laughter, maybe a tear or two, and always a good time. Youngsters and old timers, whatever the occasion, have been captivated by the unique manner in which the YAMPA VALLEY BOYS preserve some of our Western heritage.
