Yusha Assad, born Joshua Blackwell, is a Hip-Hop artist from Reidsville, North Carolina, who is said to have both a diverse style of delivery and creative word play, while maintaining an ability to provide thought provoking and inspiring content. Humbled by his North Carolina roots, his music connects to the soul of his listeners as he provides his reflections of life, love, business, and religion.
Yusha Assad is not only an exceptional artist, but an exceptional teacher. He is currently an eighth grade math teacher at an inner city middle school in NE Washington,
DC. He’s quoted as saying “Teaching has given me the opportunity to be better by allowing me to reflect on my own character and needs. My students have motivated me to follow my dreams, and so I get the opportunity of not just telling them to succeed, but I get to show them how.” One of Yusha’s strongest beliefs is grounded in the root of education and how it can be used to change the lives of his students. He also speaks about the current failures of public education and the social challenges his students face even behind the walls of the school building.
