ZUM is an Argentinean-Japanese guitar trio, specialized in the use of steel String acoustic guitars tuned to the so-called Guitar Craft Standard Tuning (New Standard Tuning), which gives their characteristic sound a much wider sonic range.
ZUM's main driving force may very well be rooted in the Argentinian tradition of the Tango, however, their diverse musical escapades serve as examples of their versatility and virtuosity. Typically, one may hear Piazzola side by side with Bartók, The Beatles or Stevie Wonder, this without losing the inner coherence and distinct identity of the group. In this sense ZUM is a delight to experience live!
The trio met for the first time in August 1995, during a Guitar Craft Seminar in West Virginia/USA directed by Robert Fripp, after which they collaborated on various projects, recording and touring through Europe, USA, South America and Japan.
They have also been working as part of the legendary guitar ensemble "The League of Crafty Guitarists". They toured with Robert Fripp Soundscapes as the member of The League of Crafty Guitarists in US, Italy, Spain and Portugal between 2006 and 2007.
In 2012, they released a new album "In The Same Boat" featuring mainly their original materials. It is very unique combinations of Prog/ Funk/ Metal, and Argentinean Folk style.
