basalt began one fateful day when Nicky decided it was time to play the guitar at the ripe age of 21. Never dissuaded, she got a hand held recorder & wrote her first songs under the 4 track name of basalt, lower case to stress the utmost cathartic importance & insignificance of words & music. Schooled in the hard knocks of rock, she joined a handful of bands over the years, all timeless & true, & she learned something from all: Mercury Birds, Taija Rae, The Scholarships & Fistfight.
