Biography

Welcome to Richard Murrey’s Chevy Ford Band! I grew up 50 miles north of Nashville on a Kentucky farm and since picking up a guitar at the age of 16, I have been entertaining professionally in numerous bands of all genres as a bassist and guitarist. In January of 1993, I decided it was time to get serious about songwriting so I moved to Bishop, California (located in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains). In my 6 years there I wrote more than 300 songs in the genres of traditional country,
blues and rock. I re-discovered my childhood love of pure country through the inspiration of artists such as George Strait, Merle Haggard, John Prine, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Guy Clark, one of the best writers I've ever had the pleasure to encounter. Combining those influences with my devotion to the power rock and blues of the late 60’s and 70’s, i began to weave my life’s experiences through the years of romance, love, heartbreak, loss, happiness, and so many emotional situations to tell a story in a different way. I keep playing and writing for the purest reasons, the love of the song. This I have done for years and my catalog paints a wide stroke of life across the canvas. Everywhere I've performed my originals with this band or that, I have received positive feedback and confirmation that I'm doing what I should be doing. Even though, I'm not a "full-time" musician, I am a "full-time songwriter" and constantly coming up with new ideas. My love of music is best shared and that is why I am in high hopes of finding old and new artists who can translate my songs into their interpretive works of art. Our songs are superbly crafted at Steven Cooper's Songwriter's Studio outside of Nashville featuring the Chevy Ford Band. What began as a few songwriter demos has become a diverse and prolific band producing project after project capturing a unique sound, giving birth to it’s own “band personae”. Music for the thinkin' human being... blending roots rock, blues, metal, country, reggae and funk into a most unique styling. With myself on bass, Steven Cooper on keyboards and drums, we teamed up with Jeff Jordan on guitar and James “Bubba” Hudson’s vocal artistry and rhythm guitar work to develop the core of the “Chevy Ford Band” sound while adding the vocal talents of the local Nashville pool for female lead songs and duos. The blues/rock projects added the talents of John Heinrich on saxophone and drew heavily on the guitar talents of Jordan and the years of vocal experience and creative studio mastery of both Hudson and Cooper. If just one of my songs can bring you a smile, laugh, tear or create a emotional moment that creates a memory for you, then i’ve accomplished my goal.
