Frances Miller
 

Biography

Frances is a multi-instrumental improvisor, teacher, facilitator, performer, composer and singer-songwriter. Her main instruments include violin, voice and hang drum. Her early musical influences came from East Africa, the Mennonite Church and extensive classical training. Since then, she has been involved in numerous musical traditions including Celtic, Cajun, music from Cape Verde as well as writing her own songs. She is currently studying North Indian Classical. Frances has released 3 CD's and 1 movie soundtrack. She has had the privilege of recording and performing with grammy-nominated cellist David Darling, performing with Howard Levy, and is currently playing in a band called "Mandalele"with Lorraine Duisit from former band "Trapezoid", and Wendi Sirat.

Frances is passionate about the potential power of music to restore balance in individuals and community, to connect us with the earth and the raw elements of our lives. She currently teaches music in the mountains of Virginia and works one on one with individuals in the community. She is a trained music facilitator (through Music for People and Village Music) for improvisational music events.
