Rabbit Velvet is Danielle Kimak Stauss, in her first solo project, after artistically noted collaborations which have reached out to a world wide fan base. Formerly Stauss was the lyricist/vocalist for retro-goth surf wonders, NYC based "The Lost Patrol", for their first six + albums, and co-vocalist for Asbury Music Award Winners (Best Vocalist and Best Acoustic Band), NJ coast acoustic coffeehouse sweethearts, "Afterglow".
Rabbit Velvet uses only musical typing, original and borrowed/altered loops, guitar, percussion, and voice to create these rock-pop-dance floor accessible pieces. Influences range from Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Verve and Dusty Springfield, to big screen Bollywood dance finales, mixed with psychadelic tinged production that lend them a unique ambiance. Stauss frames her honey laden vocals with a brocade of reverb, and velvety rich string/synth accompaniment on these lush arrangements. Add in advice and mastering from Grammy Award Winning engineer, Larry Alexander (Devo, Sisters of Mercy, David Bowie) to round out the sound on the debut, "Crows and Doves" for a rich, sonic feast of melody and atmosphere.
Crows and Doves has already graced the floor of NYC design house, "Ochre", and is bubbling up through the ears of djs and music aficionados who have their ears tuned to the artistic end of the sonic radar. Currently, Stauss is performing acoustic versions of songs on the Crows/Doves album, while writing new songs, which are more traditionally guitar oriented for her next release.
