Biography

Italian born and currently residing in Bologna, Stefano plays differernt styles including jazz, world, contemporary, popular and rock, modern sacred music based on early sources, film music, multisciplinary performances, solo concerts and sometimes even classical. A self taugh musician he recently graduated at the National Conservatory of Bologna.

His soprano saxophone tone is immediately distinctive for its purity, warmth and dark full sound. His playing is volatile and lyric while his music flows with abundance of shades and expression. The compositions are greatly varied: they may have a modern and abstract quality or be imbedded with an archaic, traditional flavour.

He toured Europe and United States where had the chance to play and study with some of the most advanced musicians in the world such as Steve Lacy, Markus Stockhausen, Tristan Honsinger and Joe Giardullo. He shares collaborations with artists involved in disciplines other then music like theatre, dance, poetry, film and video-art. He believes this unlocks new ideas and stimulates fresh creativity. This led him to view music in a multidisciplinary ( or visual ) perspective and helped work his way to a more personal language / sound on the small but rich horn: the soprano saxophone!

Beside being a musician he's also a professional psycholgist and art-therapist. If you like to know more about him and his work, please go to his personal website.
