Biography

Captain Hook is a rock band based out of Jacksonville, Florida. The line up is unique, professional, and musically talented. This five piece band is a group of friends that Weaver, the founding member, has encountered during his time in Florida.
Guitarist/singer/songwriter, Weaver was a founding member of the band “The Well” which formed in Pittsburgh, PA in 1997 and relocated to Jacksonville, FL in 2001. The band enjoyed some years of substantial success from Pennsylvania to Florida supporting their album, “Strange Bird”. After The Well broke up, Weaver began performing a solo/acoustic set and simultaneously began jamming rock n roll with a rotating group of musical friends he met along the way.
In 2005, Weaver recorded and produced his first solo album, “Transfer”, and formed the “Safety 1st Band” which brought in bassist Dell “Armondo” Hand. Dell grew up in Jacksonville and has played many styles of music from punk, funk, ska, and country, to the rock n roll that Captain Hook delivers every night.
Caitlin Johnson, from St. Augustine, FL, was still in high school, learning guitar and discovering her voice when she recorded some backing vocals on Weaver’s “Transfer” CD. In a couple of short years, she became a respected and popular guitarist/singer/songwriter. Those who don’t know Caitlin are often surprised when she goes from strumming rhythm in the background to delivering her powerful lead vocals and rocking on her Les Paul like nobody’s business.
Captain Hook had a few line up changes as it developed. Some walked the plank voluntarily and some were tossed overboard, but the live shows never stopped happening. Eventually, the band reunited with veteran Jacksonville drummer, Tony Marinaccio, who also played in the band The Well, years before. Many folks will also remember Tony from playing in the Jacksonville based Matt Rage Band.
Toby McWilliams officially joined the band in August 2010 for the annual summer tour. Toby can shred. His ferocious guitar playing and attention to detail is a product of listening to, and studying all the greats - old and new. Just as important, Toby’s vocals combined with Weaver and Caitlin’s creates a strong three part harmony not heard in most rock bands these days. Captain Hook has gained some momentum opening for national acts such as Jimmy Van Zandt and David Allan Coe. They won the 2010 and 20011 “Battle of the Genres” at the Taste of St. Augustine festival, held at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. Captain Hook has also enjoyed some charity work in the local community such as playing music for the Annual Vietnam/Legacy Veterans Motorcycle Toy Run and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Every August, the band takes a road trip up the East coast all the way to Pennsylvania where they play in Weaver’s hometown and put on an annual outdoor festival called “Weavestock” that will reach its 16th year in 2012. Weaver has a new CD “in the works".
The fans of Captain Hook call it “the rock show.” The show is different every night. The band plays with energy and enthusiasm because that’s what they love to do and the audience enjoys this. Captain Hook avoids the overplayed covers you hear many bands doing. Captain Hook mixes their original music with unique covers from many eras and genres that make people say, “I don’t believe they’re playing that”.
