Walking on the Water

by Gena Marie Ruschmeyer

With crystal-clear and often ethereal vocals, the artist expresses faith in Christ with an evocative edge. The singer/songwriter blends vocal range and note intensity with verse and themes which are, at times, both comforting and compelling.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
My current CD, "Walking on the Water" came together as a "calling" I experienced to express my faith in Christ. After having cancer a second time and going through chemo., I found myself deeply renewed in my Christian walk. A pilgrimage to Israel, where I was asked by my Pastor, Chip Larson, to lead the music for our group, intensified my calling. Several of the songs on my CD came to me while dreaming at night. So captivated by the clarity of these dreams, I have a great need to express them. I find myself not only writing songs but also painting what I see and experience. After experiencing walking right behind Christ on the water in a dream, I wrote a rock tune called, "Walking on the Water" and painted the experience. This is the title song on my CD and the painting is my front cover. I sense a very deep spiritual connection to Christ through each one of the songs and I hope to share this with others through my creativity.
Having been raised in the mountains at Lake Tahoe, nature has always had a great influence on my creativity. I have written at least 100 songs, most of which I have never recorded and released, but hope to do so in the future. Many of those songs are also Christ-inspired, however, my two previous CDs are of the Pop/Country/Folk genre. It was a great privilege to work with some fantastic local musicians though the years and also some veteran players such as Donna Axton who played piano with Hoyt Axton, Clint Strong who played lead guitar for Merle Haggard for about 10 years and performed with many known Jazz artists, Scotty Joss who has played fiddle for Dwight Yoakam for many years, and Don Evans who played guitar for Billy Joel and many other known artists.
I am also very thankful for the wonderful musicians on my current CD, as well as my friend, Tom Gordon, who produced it. A special experience was captured while in Jerusalem, where my friend, Mark Davis, sang with me on an impromptu version of "Alleluia" by Jerry Sinclair while we were in the Church of St. Anne. I have included this on the CD because many friends asked if I would do so. Also on my CD is Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria" with only my voice and the accompaniment of Marina Roznitovsky on Classical Harp. I love this piece and hope you will enjoy it.
