Album Notes

OK, so I have a bit of an unusual history for a rock guy. I\'m a writer, journalist, author, dad, hockey player, soccer coach and occasional maker of really amazing chili. I\'ve played guitar since I was 13 but always for myself, shyly, not in front of people, and I never thought I could write a song. When I was about...well...kind of old, I met a friend (Mark Holmes -- thanks Mark!) who plays and writes terrific music, and he pushed me to perform in public and start writing songs. I discovered I really liked it and was reasonably good at it. To be honest, songs just came pouring out of me, like somebody tapping a keg that had been sitting around for ages, just waiting to be, um, tapped. Since in my writerly life I often write about the intersection of technology and society, I took many of my songs there, too -- particularly the songs on this CD. As for The Briefs: I met all of them in San Francisco, and somehow this just came together. Andy is a serial tech start-up guy. He\'s probably richer than all of us put together. Bill runs a major tech law firm in Silicon Valley. John is the legal guy for a software company that\'s important to the music industry. (Yay, ProTools!) And we\'re The Briefs because two of the guys are lawyers, and we like that the name makes you think of underwear. Those guys made my songs sound like I always wanted them to sound. For which I am grateful. Hope you like the music.
