Album Notes

Philadelphia-born, self-taught musician Nick Mundy started his musical odyssey at the young age of 17 as lead singer and guitarist for London Records’ family group, "The Beck Family."

Nick continued his journey with another Philadelphia family group, "Sister Sledge," as their musical director and guitarist. He performed on their album titled My Guy.

Columbia Records industry veterans Cecil Holmes and Ron Mosley saw green in Mundy and believed it wasn’t long before Nick’s 12-inch single, “Ain’t It Alright,” hit the streets.

Nick left the East Coast for Los Angeles to pursue his artistry. Armed with only one hundred dollars and 14 songs, he promptly landed himself a publishing deal with MCA Publishing and Warner Chapell Music. It wasn’t much time before Nick was signed to Warner Brothers by Benny Medina. He released his first solo album in 1985 titled, “Your Kind of Guy.”

Along the way, Nick found time to co-write and produce songs such as Talk to Me for Chico DeBarge; Trade Him In with Janice Ian; Jody Mowatt Working Wonders What Comes Naturally for Sheena Easton; This Song for Jeffrey Osborne; Roll The Dice for Color Me Badd; Personality for Kashif, Gina Go Go Gomez, Alexsander O’Neal and John Pagano; Let’s Get To It for Wild Orchid and Fergie; All About You boy, Eric Benet; Christmas Mom for LaToya Jackson with Cerrone “Oops, Oh, No!” for Phil Perry Who you love Carl Thomas Motion and Tony Terry; and Try My Love for Jeremy Jordan… just to name a few.

Naturally, it was only a matter of time before Nick returned to doing exactly what he was meant to do – crafting song after heartfelt song for himself for his self-released CD titled “Just Songs.” In this album he finally is able to release himself from the shackles of having to write an album of cuts in just one style or another. With this CD, Nick’s fans can truly appreciate his multi-faceted, genre-crossing artistry.

Sit back and take this journey with Nick. Released on Nick’s own label, “Blackyard productions,” it’s been a long time coming, but worth every second of the wait!

Get ready for an amazing new sound! Nick Mundy’s JUST SONGS is an album of addicting melodies and cool vocals, begging the listener to question, “Who is this?!” The impressive self-taught artist began at 17 years of age. He’s co-written and produced songs with Jeffrey Osborne, Fergie and Eric Benet. What’s most stunning is Nick‘s ability to fuse acoustic rock and Smooth Urban Jazz. The result is exciting and cutting-edge Seal-like style that upon one listen will leave you wanting more. Mundy’s engaging lyrical content is evident on “Sugar Pie,” “Is It That Way” and the acoustic rock groove of “Adorable.” The songs play like excerpts from his personal journal. His vocals are textured yet smooth, reminiscent of Jeffrey Gaines, Ephraim Lewis and John Legend. On the guitar, Nick rocks you gently in the vain of Hendrix or Clapton and he picks as cleanly as Larry Carlton. JUST SONGS is an ultimate paragon of cool, contemporary music!
