This Side of Madness

by Sarah Swanson

Listeners give this album two thumbs up for the haunting and intense vocals, the introspective songwriting, and the talented backing band which creates an original sound hinting at a dreamy Lucinda Williams, Fleetwood Mac, and an edgier Carole King.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Sarah Swanson’s newest release THIS SIDE OF MADNESS on Feline Zoo Music blends heart-wrenching blues, groove rock, and thoughtful moody ballads which deliver an emotional punch. Sarah’s songwriting style is raw and haunting with introspective lyrics and powerful pure vocals. The well-acclaimed band led by rock guitarist Patrick Thomas, a creative force who lends some songwriting masterpieces on this recording, is very present on this project with a strong backing band including Rod Capps on bass and Chuck Mauk on drums. Sarah plays piano on several of the songs with an added demo version of the heartbreaking song FOREVERMORE as the last track on the CD. Recorded in the renowned studio Big Sky Recording, highly regarded engineer and co-producer Geoff Michael captured a high quality production without masking the album in technical trickery.

The mid-tempo song TELL ME YOU LOVE ME gained far reaching national airplay and was played daily on both commercial and independent radio stations including WFIV out of Knoxville for months. In a surprising move, Women of Substance Radio picked up the blues-rock song YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME clocking in at over seven minutes where it became a TOP TEN SONG for two months in a row and ranked #37 on their TOP 50 SONGS 2012. Several other songs off of THIS SIDE OF MADNESS including the rocking title track also gained radio exposure. The album made it onto the Americana Music Association charts as well as the national Roots Music Report Americana charts.

Sarah's band plays most of THIS SIDE OF MADNESS as well as Sarah Swanson's debut CD DARK SUNSHINE (also available on CD BABY) during their high energy live shows. The current touring band includes Patrick Thomas (guitar), Jim Gillette (guitar), Dave Wolff (bass), Paul Koch (drums), and Jennifer Buehrer (backing vocals/percussion).

This Side of Madness

Sarah Swanson's album, this side of madness
This is the 2nd CD that I have purchased that Sarah Swanson and her band has put out. I really enjoy her style of music and the music that band members put out. To me her music tells a great story with each song. Bluesie kind of sound and it rocks. In each of her songs I think we all have a story that relates. This Side Of Madness is a great Cd..Keep up the great work.

When I think about the CD’s that take a ride from their cases to my player most often, they are by artists who reveal the most about themselves, and the world around them. Artists like Sarah Swanson, who is not afraid to let us into her world, both during the best of times and the worst.
Sarah Swanson writes and sings with true passion, which can be heard in every song on This Side of Madness. I come away with a new favorite song after each listen. This disk has a lot to give. Savor. Enjoy.

The best CD I've heard all year!
From front to back, Sarah Swanson's "This Side of Madness" captures innate feelings in us all. The arrangements are immaculate; The lyrics are powerful and poignant; Sarah's vocals are beautiful and touched a part of me I'd not felt in a while. If you buy any CDs this year, invest in "This Side of Madness", you will NOT be disappointed! Amazing! Thank you for sharing your talents with the world!

Great Guitar driven Rock and Roll
Sarah and her band deliver on this guitar driven CD. Powerful songs delivered with authority and power. Mixing influences of rock, folk and country brought together with Sarah's edgy and gritty vocals, then polished with Patrick Thomas' tasty guitar work.
