Griff Steel & The Duck and Dive Five
    The Album
1950's rock and roll, jump jive, Dance music.
Griff Steel & The Duck and Dive Five. We are a six piece 1950`s rock n roll and jump jive outfit from Cardiff South Wales The Band members. Griff Steel. Lead vocalist. Former lead singer with early 90`s indie band “The Bewildered”, Griff retired from the music scene in 1995 after a notorious solo tour of Germany and France where he made an obscene amount of money from the construction industry. However, after picking up a back injury he decided to have another shot at music but this time he said “I wanna make people dance baby…..” And the rest is history. (Griff is also director of football(Soccer) with Claude F.C.). Dirk Diamond Bassist. Nowhere near as ugly as he looks in his photo, Dirk is also the bass player with outstanding rhythm & blues combo “Snatch it back” with whom he uses the odd name Paul Higgins. Dirk has performed in the past with such luminaries as Tich Gwilym, Mickey Gee and Heather Jones (he told me he appeared on television with her but he cannot prove it so I am not putting it in his bio). Virgil “Ace” Hilts. Piano, Keyboards & Coughing. Formerly the piano player with “Red Beans and Rice” in those far off days when he was called Steve. Also currently leader of World music aficionados “Funhouse”, Our boy “Ace” is one of the finest “boogie-woogie and rock n roll” ivory tinklers around and although at one time this man was completely hooked on fishing, the Duck and Dive Five have nearly weaned him off the habit (apart from the odd Carp now and again). Chance Buckman. Tenor Saxophone, Tambourine. Where do you start with this Chappie, Mr Buckman is the quiet one in the band, no-one knows where he came from but some say he was at one time with Shakin Stevens and the Sunsets and more recently that he played Saxophone for Linda Gail Lewis. Others say his car is nearly as old as he is and that he has never bought anyone a drink ever….. But no-one really knows. Lozzie Lazlo. Drums and Percussion. Super Drummer, lovely lozzie is also backing vocalist and percussionist with “The Kenny Driscoll Band” and has performed in many stage musicals and knows all the words to all the songs (and the tunes) of every musical produced for the silver screen….Oh and I must remember to say that she is quite young, Pete “Whip” McChord. Guitarist. Witty, gritty and very northern England, “Whip” is another refugee from the band “Snatch it Back”. He has appeared on many recorded musical soirees over the years. He has also played guitar with techno punk outfit “Alien Sex Fiend”. Noted for his lovely accent and odd Yorkshire sayings such as “I’ll fetch our whippet” and “That’s the dog’s conkers that is lad”. Mr McChord is a nice man (despite the bad language).
