    Diamonds Uncovered
    Within the repertoire of extant flute and piano sonatas, there exists a large body of work that remains relatively unknown among performers and scholars. With this in mind, Deanna Little and Jerome Reed have undertaken to perform and record five such sonatas in order to augment the current canon of regularly-performed compositions. Each of the five works on this recording was written by a North American composer during the twentieth century. While they all share certain traits of scoring and formal construction, each is unique in its inspirations, soundscapes, and challenges for the performers.

    COUNTERTENOR DON KRIM does not fit the expectations we have of a modern countertenor. His voice is neither reminiscent of a choir boy nor of a mezzo-soprano. The coloration, emotionality and use of dynamic range, the naturalness and immediacy of the sound are simply unique in the countertenor sphere, recalling in many ways the magnificent, late Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. Venturing out of the traditional countertenor repertoire for a Debut CD is unprecedented. This is the first recording of Rückert Lieder by a countertenor, and this is the first recording of the Rilke Songs since the grammy award-winning premiere recording by Ms. Hunt Lieberson in 2006.
