The Cartridge Family
Sunshine-Filled Songs of Death and Deceit
They work, they play, they bring up babies...all the while they hum their sunshine-filled hillbilly songs of death and deceit in perfect 3 part harmony...
The Cartridge Family sprang from a radio program on Melbourne's 3RRR FM...Grand Old Twang, first hosted by Denise Hyland in 2009, which called for a hillbilly harmony trio in the style of the Carter Family to lend vintage style to the broadcast. The band was so popular that repeat engagements followed, including recent appearances at Port Fairy Folk Festival. Comprising Sarah Carroll, Suzannah Espie, Rusty Rich and fiddler Greg Field, The Cartridge Family is at once a serious enterprise and a light-hearted outlet for the four, who also play in such well known Aussie bands as The Junes, Little John, Scared Weird Little Guys (until recently!) and The Rich Family, as well as enjoying careers in their own names.
The album was recorded in a week at guitar legend Jeff Lang's studio, and also features the wonderful work of Nicky (Del Rey) Grant on guitars and Ian Collard on harmonica. Artwork was by the very talented Myf Walker. Enjoy!
