Holden Brothers BIO –
The second, fourth and eighth children of nine siblings, Bill, Jeff and Lamont respectively were constantly exposed to gospel and R&B music of the fifties through present day songs.
The brothers developed very distinct yet beautifully rhythmic blended voices with a musical mix that soothes the body and brings an inner peace/joy to the soul. With their closely blended, warm and easy voices, the Holden Brothers have been sharing their uplifting message and their music fulltime for most of 2008. These men get their musical influences from a wide range of performers, from Stevie Wonder to the Temptations to legendary gospel greats such as Sam Cooke and James Cleveland. However, their inspirational lyrics come straight from God.
The three bothers came up with the sound of music constantly flowing in their home. Raised in Henderson, North Carolina, there was the early influence from their uncles who sang in several southern groups, including their uncle Fred who sang at the famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York. Bill and Jeff began singing with street corner harmony groups, in school plays, talent shows and in the class rooms during the late sixties and throughout the seventies. Lamont started singing and followed suit during the mid eighties into the nineties. The brothers sang off and on together at family gatherings and in venues around the town to include the church, clubs and after hour spots. The young men would sing where ever and whenever anyone would listen.
In the late eighties, Bill started to pursue a career in the technology field and began to sing a lot less publicly. Jeff worked in the automotive field and continued to sing. Lamont worked in retail and contracting jobs and also continued to sing in and around the Henderson area.
Jeff went on to sing professionally with the group ”Impact”. He was a powerful lead singer who captivated audiences from Jackson, Miss. to Maryland. Jeff also sang at the Rooster Club in Detroit, Mich. several times. Jeff has continued to sing for nearly 30 years. Lamont continued to sing with capable singing groups in the Military then back in Henderson.
On June 1, 1998, ma passed and the Brothers’ promised to do a tribute to their most beautiful mother. They continued to sing off and on together mostly at family gatherings. After nines years from their mom’s death, Lamont started to write some of the most moving lyrics that one could image with equally complementary rhythms. Jeff was first introduced and hooked on the sounds then later Bill listen in amazement. The brothers agreed it was time to get that tribute done. Bill set a completion date of Sept.30th 2008 and the brothers got to work on their tribute to mom. The Brothers missed the Sept. 30th (Mom’s birthday) date due to a studio scheduling conflict however, the CD pre-production work was completed on Oct. 10th less than two weeks after the original date. There was some degree of disappointment yet, a great deal more satisfaction as the brothers could see the light at the end of the tunnel for this breathe taking experience.
The brothers solidly reunited and actually completed their first singing engagement at Kesler Temple AME ZION church on Sunday, Oct 19th, to a standing ovation. “We didn’t even have a great deal of time to really practice Lamont said laughingly. “We just met at Mom’s house and ran through a couple of things and then went on to the church!” But the sound worked from the beginning and the brothers vowed to finalize the CD and to share the message with the world. Note: The Holden CD first received radio airplay on our hometown local station, 1450 AM on 12/28/08 at 9:AM (The Margaret Ellis, Sunday morning gospel program). “What a thrill” !
This trio has been gracing fans and blessing audiences with their appearances during the Henderson Homecoming performances and in the Maryland areas. The brothers will soon be touring the area from North Carolina to New York delivering their inspirational, motivational and spiritually hearth felt / soul stirring lyrics through song and music. The Holdens are known for their high energy and humorous yet touching performances, but their deepest desire is to show God’s love, grace and forgiveness through the songs God has given them to sing. The Holden Brothers’ dedication to the music they love has rewarded them with a re-newed commitment to strengthen their family ties, increasing their fan base while expanding their recognitions. The brother’s goal is to encourage all who listen to their music to realize and understand the peace that comes with knowing GOD’s word.
