Surfing in California and bunjee jumping in New Zealand, this is what singer/songwriter Andy Baker has been up to recently. He has also opened shows for The Spin Doctors and toured with John Prine. Ripe with stories and travel tunes, the artist's newest release QUEENSTOWN details recent experiences in New York City, Los Angeles and around the world. Like his independent lable, Adventure Travel Music, his life has been nothing but.

Playing guitar since age 12, Baker formed his first group in high school and paid his expenses during four years at Penn State playing in a working rythym & blues band. He embarked on a solo career in 1997 which has carried him all over the country and other parts of the world, including Europe and southern Africa. In 2001, equipped with only his guitar and backpack, Baker obtained a large following of international travelers as he toured solo thru New Zealand from Auckland to Queenstown. This tour sparked the inspiration for the title song of this CD, which has landed radio play in the USA, Germany and New Zealand.

QUEENSTOWN pays homage to travel and life experience in the style of Bob Dylan, namely storytelling. Baker's lyrics, sung at ease through a steady voice, definitely take center stage on the CD. Short and sweet, the songs are surrounded and complimented well by his talented guest musicians, including horn and string sections, electric guitar, keyboards and super tight drums and bass. The ten songs on the CD cover intriguing issues ranging from racial tolerance to the ever-interesting relationship between men and women. This outstanding collection of custom crafted tunes will take you on an unforgettable journey...

  • must-have for those who like great acoustic music
    author: Jeffrey McKellin

Queenstown is a must-have for those who like great acoustic music complimented by horns and strings. Across the Yard is an example of how the horns and string can really make a song rock. I met Andy Baker at his guest house when I traveled to Alaska and found him to be as laid back and personable as his music. The music and lyrics are simple, clean and crisp -- clearly he's influenced by the environment in which he lives as well as his journeys and adventures around the world. Queenstown resonates with a passion for adventure, an appeal for tolerance and diversity and makes the world seem a little smaller.

  • The first CD I listen to on every trip I take
    author: matt brezina

Andy's music is so inspirational to me. His life story mirrors the life I am always trying to live. I am an instrumental musician and I rarely listen to words, but with the "Queenstown" album, I listen to every word because they mean so much.

  • Excellent! down to earth lyics, good guitar work
    author: John Metz

All the songs really grow on you with interesting guitar phrases and catchy lyrics. I especially like the acoustic and electric guitar work in "Look on the Inside," and "Foreign Land." Great heartfelt lyrics in "Hold Steady," "Man of Color." And the title track ROCKS!

  • great CD for those who travel, or for those who want to :)

Great CD! First heard it last summer and continued to listen to it through the cold Alaska winter. The music is easy to listen to and the lyrics are real. I especially like Queenstown and Foreign Land. Can't wait to hear more!

  • His songs reflect his personality
    author: Doris K.

The songs on "Queenstown" remember me of the artist himself. Reliable, groovy, great words, spirit, adventurer and traveller, open hearted and very interesting to listen to. That's exactly like the person I met a few years ago on a trip through Alaska, Andy Baker. Now I got the CD back home in Switzerland.

  • Queenstown CD is a fun musical journey!
    author: Joseph Feusi

The first time I heard about Andy Baker was through his reputation. I had heard about this guy, who while traveling in New Zealand with nothing but a backpack and a guitar, put together a spontaneous and highly successful tour through the North and South Islands. I thought that was a pretty outrageous thing to do, very cool!. Unbeknownst to me I walked into one of his gigs and saw him for the first time. I thought, yep this is the guy! I sat, watched and listened while he captivated his audience with stories of travel, adventure and fun all told through songs and humorous anecdotes. His high energy, ear to ear grin and masterful musical style draws you into this modern day troubadour's adventure. Andy definitely take you on a very cool trip! I was one of the first people to get a copy of the Queenstown CD and it truly captures Andy's adventures spirit. Great job Andy! Thanks for taking me along with you on your journey of fun and adventure!

  • I performed with Andy Baker
    author: David Findlay Brown

I played with Andy when we were The Kabalonga Surfers based in Lusaka, Zambia. I am impressed with how far he has come. It is very moving listening to his songs and knowing and understanding, at first hand so to speak, where he is coming from. I instantly recognised people and situations. The CD is great and it is constantly in my Jeep CD player, definately Jeep Music. Why Dont You Finish That Song, I have Andy and lots more besides, inspired by you of course. If you want to visit Scotland and perhaps do a double header Gig you are more than welcome. Looking forward to the next CD.

You will not find another CD with more flavor and color. This is a CD to pop in your car while you're on a road trip, or while you're wishing you were on a road trip! Andy Baker has a gift, he takes you with him in song, to a place in the world you've never seen. Or a place in life you want to go. Two thumbs up my friend!

I met Andy and was introduced to his music on my first journey to Alaska. Now I'll never forget that trip because the music on his cd brings me back there each time I listen to it. This cd is catchy and soothing making it an asset to both my background music collection and my favorite sing-along tunes.

  • NYC loves Andy B!
    author: Jim Bishop

I bought Andy's Queenstown CD after hearing him perform live on the Testing Testing webcast last October. I ordered the CD off of Andy's website before the broadcast even concluded and have enjoyed the CD tremendously since receiving it. The listener is transported to the faraway destinations in each song that Andy writes of and sings about...a true storyteller! Hope to see you perform live in New York City sometime soon.

Andy's Queenstown CD is filled with tales of adventure, the questions we ask and the answers we find as we journey to the unknown. It so inspired me that I booked myself on a flight to Guatemala to make some memories of my own. Thanks Andy!

I go to Ohio State University and have known Andy Baker since our high school days. Andy's newest CD "Queenstown" is his best work to date. Andy has a great knack for writing songs about his personal experiences and putting them to music. His true voice and guitar work only enhance the songs. Keep on rollin Andy!!!!!!

  • Andy's Queenstown CD is a MUST!
author: Rachel Wilding - Reno, NV

I actually bought Andy's CD Before hearing his live performance in California on the premise that anyone who was musically inclined AND liked to bungee jump must have something goin' on.....Andy definitely has something goin' on! His Queenstown CD is like no other. This collection reflects the incredibly talented singer and songwriter that Andy is. It takes you away mentally and emotionally on adventures through relationships and travel. I listen to it at home and at work and never tire of it. After seeing Andy live again, this time in Reno, I'm ready for Queenstown II.

  • Enjoy upbeat lyrics, and adventurous songs.
    author: Terry

I met Andy on a plane trip back to Alaska. He offered to let me listen to his Queensland CD which I enjoyed so much I bought one! Andy has a pleasurable voice, and I think it is interesting for an artist to share his personal experiences through the lyrics of his songs like he has done on this CD. I highly recommend getting the Queensland CD!

With a perfect mix of upbeat music and adventure travel stories, he took the audience on a musical journey that everyone thoroughly enjoyed! The CD is also excellent--the crisp production, energizing music and thoughtful lyrics make for a really fun listening experience. My seven year old daughter loves it, too!

  • Saw Andy Baker open for John Prine
    author: Andy Firman

Andy is fun to watch and listen to live especially when he opened for John Prine in Anchorage. His music is all about adventure, fun, travel, all the good things in life. He has the ability to get the crowd involved with his show so it is always lots of fun. He makes great music and has a folky style which I like. You will not be disappointed with his CD.

  • In house concert!!!
    author: Ranger Jane

I met Andy Baker at the Anchorage Guesthouse. I was introduced to his music with a personal in house concert. I love live music. And, good acoustic live music is just the best. I got his CD and I listen to it all the time. Its especially fun for the road when I sing along at the top of my lungs. I play it for all my friends. Buy this CD!!!

  • I saw Andy Baker perform at the Anchorage Library benefit concert
    author: Shirley Randal

I bought Andy's CD because his music tells the story of his travels. He has been places I have never been and his CD tells the stories of those places which is exciting for me. His lyrics are beautiful and full of emotion. Some of them are sad, but they all touched my heart some how and I listen to his CD every day because each time I hear it I learn something else about his music.
