notes

"Blues & Other Moods is passionate, energetic and emotionally charged. Often, Andy will dazzle his audience with bluesy improvisations making it almost impossible to hear the same song performed twice the same way."

Andy Kimbel is a very talented folk and country-blues performer whose star is rising quickly on the national blues and folk scene. Listen to him play and you will hear the influences of traditional blues, folk, R&B and a touch of New Orleans style roots music.

On Blues & Other Moods, Andy performs a unique selection of material that ranges from gentle ballads and pointed originals, to hard driving country blues and slide guitar using various tunings and harmonics. His own distinct interpretations set him apart and give even old traditional blues a new face. Andy is a great improviser, often re-inventing words and music using the themes of traditional blues and rock & Roll stemming from the early 20's to the mid 30's.

Piano performed by David Decca and Violin performed by Karen Lyn flow beautifully with the guitar on a few selections that really add the icing to the cake on this nicely produced CD.

"His always expressive guitar playing that ranges from frolicking and exuberant to driving and soulful. Whether picking, plucking, or using a skillful slide, Kimbel brings to the stage vision of the roots of American Music that conjures up everything from rambling railroad trains to dark and lonely nights of solitary traveling"...Big Shout Magazine

Andy's Americana Jam Band seen at festivals and concert events through the last few years in the Philadelphia Area "The Andy Kimbel Express", is preparing a new CD release for summer/fall 2007.

  • Refreshing

I never really knew of Andy Kimbel. I heard a song on the radio that led to me buying this CD. It is very good and has a natural flow to it. The song that I heard on the radio is not on here but that is okay. I'll wait. Plenty of songs that I like on Blues and Other Moods. The original one on the radio was awesome to say the least. I can't remember the name of it but hope it is on the next album?

I bought this CD after hearing a radio show that Andy Kimbel was on. He is really good and I like the CD a lot. Dust My Broom is amazing as are some of the other tunes. Even the slower ones have a lot of feel and are well produced. Great Job!

  • Inspirational guitar work and an enjoyable CD

Andy Kimbel is a master of the guitar. He plays with emotion and energy that jumps out at you whether he is gently plucking away at a slower ballad or moving his fingers at a lightning pace on an energetic blues or even Celtic selection. The Blues and Other Moods CD is a snap shot of the ability of this fine entertainer. The selections move at an enjoyable pace and offer distinctive styling so you can enjoy listening to this CD in its entirety many times. There are obvious influences of Chris Smither who I also greatly admire as well as Bukka White. There is nothing to be ashamed of here. This CD should be added to collections of those who enjoy finger style guitar and acoustic blues.

The Blues in Other Moods CD That I purchased at Andy Kimbel's Show in Annapolis brought ne right back to his live performance. It has a great flow, You get a feel of his amazing improv skills throughout like he is there in your livingroom. Blues and Other Moods is well produced and well designed in content.

I recorded Folsom Prison Blues and of course has the master old JC himself but this is a new approach

  • Really good CD...A great blend of finger picking americana blues and folksy bal
    author: Dan Reynolds,

Blues and Other Moods is a very easy CD to listen to over and over again. The song selections are great, diverse and have a very good flow. My favorite selections are Andy's version of If I Had A Boat, Dust My Broom and Where My Love Lies. (every time I listen to it, I have a new favorite), The CD shows that Andy is among the top of the finger picking bluesy singer song writers. You can hear a Chris Smither infulence (Who is one of my favorites), and a Leo Kotkke influence somwhere in there. The CD is very much worth adding to a collection of folk and Blues recordings.
