Derek is an a cappella arranger, handbell and piano composer and currently works with the local band/musical group, When Karma was King. His first musical composition, 'The Journey (in the cold winter night)', was written in the fall of 2005 for his home church and for a local Handbell choir. The piece was mainly written for his high school graduation project but turned into something more meaningful.
Having enjoyed the opportunity to write his first song, Derek took his talent to the next level and decided to start working on other pieces. Since 2005, Derek has written over numerous original compositions and arrangements.
Derek is also an arranger for his Alma mater's pop co-ed a cappella group, having arranged over 20 songs. Derek has also produced their first album, 'Half Past Two'. The album consists of one original song, 'The Wait', co-written by Derek and the local band he plays in, 'When Karma was King'.
