Subject to Thoughts is a two-man band from Texas & West Virginia. This project was started in 1999 by Mark with the intention to create original thought-provoking Progressive music.
Subject to Thoughts’ music can best be described as Dark Melodic Progressive Rock/Metal with a New Age mood too it. They incorporate the darkness heard in Doom Metal with the technicality found in Progressive Rock/Metal, and adding an Ambient aura thus making it a very engaging listen.
Their influences are Dream Theater, My Dying Bride, Anekdoten, Enchant, and Katatonia.
Throughout the years, their music has received album reviews worldwide on places like Jerry Lucky.com, PerfectProg.net, MerlinProg.com, and in zines such as Amplified Rock and Gonzo Weekly. They have also received airplay on stations such as Prog Rock & Metal Radio (PRM), ProgRockRadio, ProgPositivity, etc.
The first music recorded by Subject to Thoughts was a cassette demo entitled “Outlook” on 2001, but with no vocals. On May 2003, Mark completed his second cassette demo entitled “The Thought Process,” and vocals were introduced for the first time. Then on August 2005, he completed his third full length demo entitled “From Emptiness to Beyond.” This was the first time he recorded onto CD format, so he considered it the first official release for Subject to Thoughts. Next on July 2006, his second album “To Embrace the Light” was released.
On March 2007, Mark decided it was time to take Subject to Thoughts to a new level, so he enlisted Brandon as the new vocalist. He also plays the guitar solos. Then on June 2007, Subject to Thoughts released “From Sunrise to Sunset.” This was their first collective effort as a band. Finally, on May 2010, they released their latest effort “The Culmination.” This album displays their best work to date showing their maturity as a band. The Culmination concludes the 4 part concept that began with “From Emptiness to Beyond.” The theme of this album is finding closure in a struggling life.
