The Copper Street Brass Quintet

Biography

These five brilliant young musicians may have nine degrees, dozens of academic recitals, a few hundred jazz gigs and countless concerts between them, but they’ve also got style, substance, and a flair for innovation. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2007, The Copper Street Brass Quintet set up shop in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2008, where through their inventive concerts, educational programs, and totally unique repertoire, they’ve transcended the brass quintet box and evolved into something fresh.

The CSBQ has performed around the Twin Cities area at Orchestra Hall, the Walker Art Center, the Fitzgerald Theater, the Schubert Club concert series, Antonello Hall (at the MacPhail Center for Music), the Minnesota State Fair, the Vintage Band Festival, and many other venues. The quintet has been seen on television on KARE11 NBC's "Showcase Minnesota" and on local television stations around the midwest. The group has been featured on Classical Minnesota Public Radio and Minnesota Public Radio News, and has also appeared in collaboration with the St. Olaf Band, St. Olaf Orchestra, Minnesota Symphonic Winds, and the Bloomington (MN) Medalist Concert Band. The CSBQ has toured extensively across the country, including performances and educational clinics in North and South Dakota, Montana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

From performing at intimate concert series venues to late-night bar gigs to outdoor music festivals to recording horn lines in the studio for hip-hop groups, the quintet has seen it all and can do it all. The CSBQ is full-time between rehearsals and running the business, but the members of the group also teach music lessons, play jazz in dive bars, and gig on the side. The group has produced numerous music videos and has recorded two full-length albums and one EP. What’s next for this group is anyone’s guess - chances are you won’t want to miss it!

The CSBQ is artist in-residence at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church in downtown Minneapolis.
