Formed in 1998 by Gregg McKella, originally going out as Flowers from a Strange Land and then went on as Paradise 9 doing gigs in and around London and the South-east. They released their "Showtime" CD on their own label in 1999.
Their music could be described as "eclectic psychedelic ambient punk" ...and described by reviewer Abi Rhodes as “Hawkwind meets Joe Strummer....”
Split up in 2002 after an argument involving a chicken curry, Gregg (previously Image Wot Image) continued to play with Dreamfield and then accidently re-formed Paradise 9 in 2004 after doing a one-off charity gig with now Carl Sampson on drums...the gig went so well they decided to continue....
2007 saw Tyrone Thomas (also with Olympic Clamp Down & seminal punk pioneers ex-ATV) added to the line-up on lead guitar, with Neil Matthars (Casual Affair) on bass in 2008.
2008 saw Paradise 9 opening for Nik Turner's Inner City Unit at the Inn On The Green. Their djembe/keyboardist, Steve Teers, has also worked with Gong's Mike Howlett. Gregg McKella has also recently worked with The Damned's keyboardist, Monty Oxymoron playing a few of gigs with him, and also guested on clarinet at the Inner City Unit debut re-form gig.
