notes

Nik Green and Penny Little/Savage migrated from signed bands to create their own hybrid electronic pop music, resulting in their album "Aliens on Line". Live and recorded, The Away Team use loops, sequencers, synthesizers and esoteric sound design processing tools

Nik Green hails from the UK where he formed the electronic dance/ambient trio The Really Schmaltzy Cabaret Boys with John Connell and Will Douglass, releasing the dance floor single, "Out of Sight, Out of Mind". Nik later teamed up and recorded several albums with folk artist Roy Harper whose band at the time featured Jimmy Page and Tony Franklin, later of The Firm. Nik left the UK in 1987 to join hard rock/metal band Blue Murder with former Thin Lizzy/ Whitesnake guitarist John Sykes. After Blue Murder disbanded, The Away Team was incarnated in Isla Vista, California in 1994, as a trio with Penny on vocals and keys, and with James Fanning on Chapman Stick/Warr Guitarist. This incarnation plus drums and percussion, performed locally in Southern California, and at the Summer Solstice festival in Santa Barbara, in 1997. In 1998, they began to build their own state of the art digital studio, and in 1999 completed their first album together.

Penny Little/Savage, recorded her first album "In a Light Garden" on Global Pacific/CBS. In 1985, in London, she and guitarist Ben Hurley released a single on Roxeene Records and toured England and Europe in various configurations. In 1987, in the U.K the band White Feather was signed to Warner/Chappell. Penny's musical influences include Beethoven (her childhood hero), Stravinsky, Harry Partch, Balinese monkey chants, Blondie and Joni Mitchell. Penny's cartoon character Little Savage made a bid for The Presidency in Y2K, but the other cartoon won.

  • Pure fun!

TAT is music I never tire of. The album holds together as a whole and each piece stands on its own, a sign of true craftpersonship. Chock full of delightfully pleasing motifs and "scherzi" (which I hope is plural for scherzo), I salute this beautifully written, engineered and produced gem of an album - a must for your eclectic collection!
