notes

Hailing from Aberdeen, MD, these four guys have been cranking out the summer jams, mixing modern rock with punk, ska, and island music since 1995. From acoustic ballads to heavy rock anthems to tropical, reggae love songs, Ballyhoo! has always managed to stagger genres and keep the music fresh...No pidegon-holes here. Just good music with a positive vibe.

Since early highschool, Ballyhoo! has been sharing it's groovy hybrid of rock, reggae, and punk with all who will listen. With the help of their tour van they've named, "The Green Room", Howi, Big D, J Dirty, and Blaze have been touring the nation, coast to coast, spreading the music and drinking your beer.

They've sold 6,000 copies of their latest album, "Do it For the Money!", along with over 14,000 downloads on iTunes and Rhapsody. All this on pure grassroots word-of-mouth and a grueling tour schedule that's taken them from Maryland to California to Florida and even Canada!

Ballyhoo!'s song "Longshot" was chosen for a compilation CD by 98 ROCK Baltimore called, "Noise in the Basement". There were about 20,000 copies pressed and distributed throughout the Baltimore/Washington area. The song also held strong in the top 5 Rock category at Garageband.com for over a year.

The band is currently receiving airplay on several Mid-Atlantic commercial radio stations, including Baltimore's 98Rock, Philadelphia's WMMR, X106.9 Salisbury, and 105.7 WHFS.

The track "Last Breath" was released on WMMR's Local Shots Vol 1 in December of 2005, which was a best seller in several area Tower Records stores.

In 2006, their cover of Sublime's "40 Oz. To Freedom" was released on the latest Sublime Tribute album entitled "Forever Free, A Sublime Tribute". Other artists on the compilation include Voodoo Glow Skulls, No Use For A Name, and Ozomatli.

In July of 2006, Ballyhoo! went global with the release of "Do It For the Money!" in Japan with 2 bonus tracks, courtesy of Surf Rock International, which is distributed by Pony Canyon.

Look for the band's new song "Boner" on latest SENSE Boardwear compilation, "Diamonds in the Rough", released in March 2007.

Ballyhoo! is steadily becoming America's favorite party band, rocking campuses such as JHU in Baltimore, Ohio State, Florida Tech, and more. If you're looking for a fresh and upbeat, melodic-rock sound, these guys will get you in the groove!

Do It For The Money! shows a lot of growing in terms of maturity and song writing. The songs are written better than before, the lyrics are deeper than before, and overall the album is just plain more well-written. It's really good and I can't wait for Cheers! to come out. This one turned me into a Hooligan. Check it out.

    author: Chad

Hey, first off, this CD is very very close to a five. The songs are all different, each with some sick beats and riffs... I've seen a lot of bands live but these guys know how to put it down. Nice CD -- I just keep it on loop and I'm good to go.

  • This CD kicks ass

  • Fantastic CD!!!!!
    author: Jen

Since the day it arrived in my mailbox, I have been listening to it nonstop. I love the music I love the beats I love the strong but not overwhelming reggae influence. Despite the fact that it makes me think of and miss someone I cared about and miss, I am grateful he introduced me to this band. It is my goal to spread the word of Ballyhoo throughout central Ohio and beyond!

  • AWESOME!!
    author: Shea

LOVE IT. This CD met my expectations plus some. The best white reggae since sublime. I would recomend to anyone!!

  • Ballyhoo!: Give Them Your Money!
    author: Frye

Upbeat and great vocals. This is white boy reggae from the top shelf. Why is it though that those who should never be seen naked are always seen naked and in this case running through the park?

  • Best CD Ever
    author: Amy

This is absolutely the best CD I've gotten in a long time. Every song is great. It's perfect. The only thing wrong with it is that there aren't more songs!

  • Simply Amazing
    author: Joey Nukes

This cd is just absoulutly awesome. Every track is perfectly done and extremly catchy while still having a great meaning behind the songs. Based on what I have heard, I think that Ballyhoo! could be as big as Sublime.

Ballyhoo! is a new band, but their sound is like a band who has been around. If you're looking to support an up and coming band, and you are in the mood for a CD where you just hit play and listen to the cd through to the end, grab this one. great cd, great sound, great band

  • Must have if you are a music fan
    author: Pete

Must have for any for of sublime and 311

  • This CD rocks!!!
    author: Ray

If you like 311 or Sublime, you will love this album. They sound similar to these bands but also have a sound completely their own. They infuse rock with reggae without skipping a beat. This is the best album I have bought in quite some time.

  • First song sets the tone!
    author: Mark Glanemann

Great CD guys. I was crusin all over town this past weekend jammin your tunes out my car windows. I keep putting The Quest on repeat. I don't know what it is, I love the drum beat or something, but it's one of the best songs I've heard in a long time to come from a band. Good luck in all you do guys. And put some damn clothes on!

  • This is an absolutely awesome album.
    author: Dan UK

I stumbled across Ballyhoo! while looking for similar artists to Sublime. I really could not have been more thrilled - this band grooves, rocks and raps effortlessly and never resorts to noise, repetition or filler tracks. Perhaps the best thing about Ballyhoo! is their fantastic sense of melody - if you buy this album, you know you are buying sweet musical, yet cool and funky melodies. The band need to lose the silly college student image (see cover artwork) because there is NOTHING silly or childish about this music. Buy it now!

  • Ballyhoo is the best band EVER!!!
    author: Heather Young

This cd is the ONLY cd i ever listen to anymore :-P It's absolutly awesome!! I love every song on there, not one bad song.. Good job guys, keep em comin!! see ya at Coakley's April 1st

  • Awesome CD
    author: Libby

Ballyhoo! rocks, I listen to the CD almost everyday. I tell all my friends about them and hopefully they will buy the CDs also.

  • WOW!
    author: Shane MacKenzie

I just heard there on song from a compilation CD and I really liked it so I decided to buy the CD. The whole thing was great. Can't wait to see these guys on a big tour one day.

  • "Ballyhoo! Jammin that groove rock style!"
    author: Cara

I love this cd! As soon as the first song- "Quest" begins, you can't help but get into a happy groovin mood. Then you have 14 other amazing tracks to jam out to. You won't have to hit skip once! This will certainly become one of your favorites. Ballyhoo! rocks!

  • Reggae Rock at it's finest.
    author: DontYouTreadOnMe

I was really excited for this cd, and it lives up to its expectation. This cd is one of the best Reggae Rock fusions I have heard right up there with Pepper, Sublime, Slightly Stoopid etc. Howi has an awesome voice and the songs are catchy but not in an annoying TRL way.

  • SICK!!! Awesome freakin record....
    author: BillyJoeRayBob

Great CD, great songs, great hooks, variations in styles...this album has everything! Oh, and the liner notes are absolutely hysterical...
