(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

A hard driving leg tapping acoustic album with soulful lyrics. A feel similiar to Jack Johnson, Matt Nathanson, Howie Day, Matt Wertz, Nathan Payant, John Mayer, Dashboard Confessionals, or David Ryan Harris

notes

With a sound people have compared to Dave Matthew's guitar meets John Mayer's lyrics, Matt Benoist released "i wrote this letter" in July 2003. Selling fast to date, Matt has become "the new artist on the block" in the Chicago music scene. If you are looking for a CD that you can play from front to back, then you have found your man. Matt puts that extra effort into every line that he writes and every catchy leg tapping guitar riff. "I can't write about what I don't feel. I look at situations in my life and try to put all those feelings down on paper. I think people can tell when the lyrics don't mean anything to the artist and I never wanted to come across that way." One might find it difficult not to relate to the sincerity in his lyrics with songs such as "not right", "prove", "what you can't see", and "i wrote this letter". Matt grew up in the southern part of Illinois and got his start as a drummer in a rock band. At 18, Matt got his first guitar and could not put it down. "My friends know better than to let me pick up my guitar before we go anywhere. They always try to turn the lights out on me to get me to come with. It's a shame because I am getting better at playing in dark," he jokes. Matt got his degree at the University of Illinois in 2002, and settled in Chicago. At 23, he is actively working on his next album and promoting "i wrote this letter". Although you may not have heard about him yet, we are all sure you will hear great things about Matt in the coming months.

I have know idea who he is, someone just gave me the CD at the Dave show, and I opened it for the first time [a few days ago.] Since then, it hasn't left my CD player. Very good and very complicated guitar parts, some of the best and most in depth solo acustic parts I've ever heard. He's also one of the only solo musicians I really like... Very, very good.

  • All I can say is WOW!! the music is 100% amazing, Matt is pure talent

The music speaks for itself! I honestly have not heard a single artist who can perform and write like this. Every song is crafted to perfection. Everyone can relate and it's like I wrote the songs, I was there, I went through this. My friend brought this over and played it for me and I was like who is this guy. When this guy hits it, he will hit it big and it's only a matter of time.

  • excellent job!

hey! i just got your cd today, which i ordered off the internet. i'm really into finding new music and you seemed to be my style. most of all, i am really into song lyrics and had been looking for lyrics forever to sympathize with what i have been going through lately and could never find them. i have never heard a song describing me so much as "not right." every word is like it's coming from me. i liked "prove" a lot too. "i wrote this letter" seems like such a heartfelt song. this is a cd you can listen to from start to finish, which is more than i can say about a lot of cds. you are an amazing lyricist and your cd is awesome. excellent job!

  • Hey! I just wanted to tell you that I think your CD is awesome!!

Hey! I just wanted to tell you that I think your CD is awesome!! Props!! I listened to it once and loved it. Some music you have to listen to a few times to like--but I liked it right away. I want to lend it to people so they can listen to it too, but I don't want to give it up yet. Good luck with your music career--although I don't think you need it!
