notes
Music. That's what this band is going for. Not be-bop, post bop or any other imposed label. All these musicians want is to be heard.
Swingin' and Groovin', BLAZE pays musical homage to those that inspired them to play helping to keep alive the brightly burning flame of jazz.
What is jazz? It's music first. Music that comes from the heart. Music that comes out of a tradition and a lineage of superb master musicians that have lived and died within this music.
Jazz is also a living - breathing, unstoppable source of energy and creativity based in the moment. Those who play it have the challenge of channeling all of the forces of those who have played jazz before them into that very moment their bodies touch their instruments. They must also walk in their own shoes, bringing new sounds, life and experiences to the fold. This process of integration takes time, patience, practice and lots of logged in performance hours.
BLAZE gives a rattling effort showing their love and dedication to there music with this self-titled, self-produced release.
The message is clear...they just wish to create music.
BLAZE is:
Brannen Temple - drums, perc, udu (Sheena Easton, Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson, Robben Ford, Hot Buttered Rhythm)
Michael Malone - tenor and soprano saxophones (Othello Mullineaux, Jimmy Smith)
Ephraim Owens - trumpet (Clark Terry, Marchel Ivery, James Clay, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe)
Steven Snyder - piano and rhodes (Randy Brecker, Peter Erskine)
Michael Stevens - acoustic bass, talking drum (Sunny Sumpter, Vannesa Rubin, Robert Greenwich, Lynn Boogsey Sharpe)
