notes

"Eclectic" is a word much over-used in folk music, but how else to describe an album that includes centuries-old Gaelic as well as selections by Stan Rogers, Dido and Kate Bush? Nearly every song on this album deals with a journey, whether from across the sea or back from the grave, each song is about choice and living with the consequences. Though it has been nearly eight years since the Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh recorded their last studio album, the astonishing variety of songs collected here, the inventive arrangements, the strength and clarity of the vocals guarantee that their journey has not been wasted - and that their choices are sure to please.

The sister group, along with cousin George and longtime friend John Allan are favorites at many music festivals across the United States and have played together for over 15 years. They have opened for the likes of Andy M. Stewart and shared the stage with Dougie MacLean, Alex Beaton, and Alasdair Fraser to name just a few. They are known for their creative and unusual harmonies and arrangements and can make folk lovers out of those who didn't know they could love folk music!

  • WHEN IS THE NEXT CD COMING OUT?
    author: Lynne Harrison

I've been a loyal fan for years and have every CD this talented group has made. READY FOR THE STORM is the best yet and just leaves you wanting more and hoping a new CD is on the horizon in short order. This group is fantastic and this CD spotlights each one's unique and wonderful talent.

  • As always-FABULOUS!!!
    author: Elizabeth Mohr

WOW! How do you pick a favorite when they just keep coming up gold? Love the fact that all have a solo song. First fell in love with them in 1991 at the 115th Sac. Valley Games.

  • An outstanding achievement by some wonderful people.
    author: Carol Staswick

I played this obsessively for the first week. I've enjoyed the group for years, but they reach a higher level of musical sophistication on this album. Every song is a gem; everyone is singing better than ever; the songs suit the voices; the instrumentals are intelligent and effective. The first song entices you in; the last one sends you away inspired. It's hard to imagine that anyone could not like this music.

  • wonderful harmonies and interesting arrangements

I love harmony singing as I sing in a group myself. My favorite track on this cd is The Carleton Weaver. Great harmony arrangements on all songs. A little less produced would suit my ear better, but that is my personal taste.

  • Another exellent ablum from BS & GC
    author: John Bogert

The first time I attended the Highland Games in Pleasanton, CA, I heard, from a distance, the last refrain of a song from The Browne Sisters & George Cavanaugh. Before I could figure out where this beautiful music was coming from, their performance ended and I had to wait a whole year before I could return and listen to their whole performance. Since then I've been hooked. I own all their albums, so while I'd say this is their #3 album (behind "West of Home" and "Castle Dangerous") I'm very impressed with this newest album.

  • Emotional!!!
    author: Becky Myers

What can I say? The vocals are fantastic and the harmony superb! There is something for everyone on this CD. Every phase of the human emotion is covered. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll cheer! Your foot will start tapping and you won't be able to stop it! If you're not a fan now, you will be after the first song! Love it!!!!

  • Made for a great present
    author: A.G.

We saw the Brown Sisters and George Cavanaugh at the Highland games in Enumclaw WA - we sat there listening for quite a while. They played a song that my wife really loved which was coming out later in the year. I surprised her with this as a gift and she really liked it.

  • It's fantastic!
    author: Teresa Campbell

One of the best CDs in my collection. I've been awaiting this CD since last summer when I saw them perform in Seattle. It was well worth the wait. What a great selection of songs and the arrangements really highlight the extensive talent in this group.

  • Another excellent album
    author: Tom Weisel

George's unique voice and the sister's harmonics make for great listening. Many different sounds. West of Home is still my favorite but this is working its way into 2nd.

  • Hard not to sing along; great for relaxing by candlelight...
    author: Peggy Lenhart

It is hard not to sing along as you listen to this CD while driving, working or playing. It's also wonderful to listen to while relaxing by candlelight. What's cool about this CD is that each BS & GC member sings lead on at least one song, even John. And, they included two more beautiful Gaelic songs.
