notes

Phoenix based singer/songwriter Cameo Hill has been performing her dynamic blend of acoustic pop in local coffeehouses and bars since 1995. Her musical roots stem from a childhood growing up in Hawaii listening to her dad and grandpa play guitar. After her father taught her a D chord on his old Harmony, she began developing her own style of rhythmic guitar playing inspired by artists such as Jim Croce and John Mellencamp.

Cameo has crafted a diverse set of original songs about love, friendship, and social consciousness. Her musical style has been likened to artists such as Ani DiFranco and Joni Mitchell. Most at home on stage, she draws audiences into each song with her raw emotion and leaves them smiling with her down-to-earth personality and light-hearted sense of humor.

Her self-produced, self-recorded debut album Pages of Green is a labor of love for this DIY artist. Notable tracks include Electric, a song about unspoken energy between people, the soulful Cinderella, which confronts the myths of womanhood, and Pages of Green, about reliving youthful experiences through forgotten diaries.

  • Live or on CD, Cameo Hill performs hauntingly beautiful songs
    author: Bruno

Having first seen Cameo Hill perform years ago at a Phoenix bar while I was grappling with a broken heart, I immediately loved the luscious melodies, straightforward guitar playing and hauntingly beautiful voice with which she sang such songs as "No Roses" and "Cherub Boys." "Pages of Green" includes both these tracks in a full studio versions that capture the essence of her superb songwriting.

  • Adoring this Album

I love the poetry in these lyrics. Cameo's guitar has a simple melody to back up the deep phrases and an interesting- rhythmic percussive tone when the words are more simple. Anyone who likes a smoothe and expressive voice like Eleanor McEvoy and Joni Mitchell or the vulnerable subject matter of Erin McKeown and Gillian Welch will appreciate what's being given up in these songs.

  • A first class recording, I give it an A+
    author: Lowell

I like Cameo's music style, her songs on "pages of green" seem to be based on her personal experiences, her relationship with life and people. Cameo's lyrics are beautiful and complex (complex for me as I'll have to admit that I don't always understand the message). There are 10 tracks on this album, all worth playing over and over again. But probably my favorite track is "Cinderella," I remember her playing it at Patriots Square Park in 2002 when I first saw her at a live performance at Patriots Square Park in downtown Phoenix . Her driving rhythm on the title track "pages of green," with the both intellectual and emotional lyrics is also a favorite. I've been a fan of Cameo's since late 2002 and am glad to see that she finally came out with her first CD. Cameo is an excellent songwriter, singer and guitar player and has put together a very nice album in "pages of green." It's clear that Cameo put a lot of effort into making a first class recording, and I give it an A+. Thanks Cameo for one fantastic CD.
