Early Wanderings

by 1000.times

Repeating loops of guitars, sometimes voice or synths, layered to finally end up building different soundscapes. Tired of agressive disco beats, hostile rap lyrics, cheap verse/chorus structures ? Let the music take you away and forget about the rest ...

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
If the words Loops Based Music, progressive, electronic, processed guitars, soundscapes, ambient, drones, mean something for you, if Fripp & Eno, Pinhas, Heldon are familiar, then we are from the same world and you've hit the right page.

After playing lots of different musics and instruments for years, the amazing sounds of Eno & fripp 70s works still were an unexplored world for me.
Early Wanderings is the story of my first journeys in this music.

Instrumentaly simple and mostly limited to one guitar and loopers, plus voice on one track, and synthesiser on two others, the idea behind this first album was to both explore the possibilities of the style and let enough room for capturing the moods of the moments.

1 First Morning - the first loops based experience structured enough to become a full piece. Partly inspired by Fripp & Eno's Evening Star.

2 Khmer Song - the guitar loop was recorded first, then some weeks later, Sokhim was singing this traditionnal tune and I asked if I could record her singing; more days passed, then I tried to assemble both parts and found they someway nicely fit together.

3 West World is Dead - another "Evening Star" inspired piece trying to use my EMS AKS synthesizer which definitely needs a good check-up.

4 White Stand Up - the first idea was to join the two main loops, and ... let things happen.

5 There's Only One - just one guitar playing here. It may seem a bit long,
but just let it play and it will provide a detaching/inspiring background.

6 The Quiet Path - inspired by the remembering of a walk
on a small country road in the mountains not far from Chambery in Savoie sometime back around 1969. Just the wind shaking the trees, and the stormy summer sky.

7 Wind On River - in the continuity of The Quiet Path feelings...

8 All Alone - roughly the same idea as White stand Up, start something playing, and let it live. I had Andre Lafosse's beautiful piece "Asana" in mind when recording this.

9 DroneZone Contrib - there is this site on the web
http://www.theshipbuilders.com/interactive/the_dronezone.php
which focuses on Drones Music and offers people the possibility of contributing a one note idea. Here is my (very slightly) revised contribution.

10 An Index of 'Rangs - three improvised loops chained, only using the Boomerang looping machine and no overdub whatsoever.

11 Where Is It ?? - the 20 blank seconds at the beginning are supposed to be there; a kind of transition after the 21+ minutes of the previous piece ...
