Tenth of Always rocked their first show in Santa Cruz on September 28, 2001. The event was quickly sold out, and fire safety laws were broken in order to pack as many concert goers into the venue as possible. By the time Tenth of Always jumped on stage to open the night's concert, there was no room left for anyone inside the club, and people were scrounging outside to
peer in through windows. The audience loved the set and when the band rang their last chord- the room roared with enthusiasm and the show was dubbed an awesome success.
The band's all girl line-up started with drummer Alana King and vocalist/guitarist Faith Gardner. Both girls had lived in Santa Barbara in previous years and formerly played together in a band called Kill Kara. In Santa Cruz, the two members began playing and found guitarist/ bassist/ vocalist Melissa Cox from Oakland and Shayle Matsuda from Chicago on bass, guitar and vocals. The foursome started playing in Alana's bedroom in late Summer and decided to name the band for an after hours club in New York called Tenth of Always.
After the band's first show, they were asked to record an album with Santa Cruz's up and coming record label: Triple Forte Records. In early October 2001, the band recorded a ten song album, blending their influences of emo, classic rock, riot grrrl, punk and pop. In March 2002, the band and record label threw a CD release party for After Hours- the show and album were both immediate successes.
Tenth of Always has spent their time playing shows over the fall, winter and spring in both Santa Cruz and in the SF Bay Area as well as venturing out to Lansing, Michigan to headline the Ladyfest event in early April 2002. The band has been receiving attention from newspapers such as the Santa Cruz Metro, websites like www.girlpunk.net and other publications such as Girlfriends Magazine. Currently, the band is planning their summer tour.

This cd is SOOOOOO good!! I hit the back button and listen to tracks over and over. These girls kick ass, they can rock out and then take the mood over to the mellow side. Yeahhh.
