Album Notes

1865, the combination of melodically aggressive production and thought provoking lyrical content. 1865 is a dynamic act who appeals to those who find the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Del the Funky Homosapien, Ras Kass, Outkast, The Sex Pistols, and Curtis Mayfield an enjoyable audio adventure. 1865’s musical awareness began to bloom at at the early age of Eight through the medium of Alto Saxophone. Throughout the years he has accumulated the ability to create music from just about any tangible instrument. With his humble approach and hyper like concentration, these accumulations were displayed when 1865 released his first studio album, Dark Matter, in July of 2007.

"This is an excellent debut for an artist who handled the duties of emceeing and production. This type of music barely exists anymore and has me eagerly waiting for what 1865 has to offer next." - Insomniac Magazine.

With a highly charged, emotionally energetic live show, 1865 has already been the opening buzz for the likes of The Pharcyde, The Roots, 9th Wonder, Zebrahead, Def Jux, and Scroobious Pip vs Dan Le Sac. With the ability to powerfully deliver both banging production and lyrics, we invite you to the sounds of a young man out of the depths of San Francisco...

The Antithesis of Monotony
author: Alisha Kwon Hammett
The Sodium Girl Ep takes the listener on a surprising yet cohesive hip hop journey. Travelling from folk-like melodies and hard rhymes, then soaring thru conscious lyrics paired with fresh guitar rifts (Mom Says is my favorite track), rhythms and psychedelic relaxed beats. This album is deliberately composed. 1865 has a wealth of musical realization that is exemplified in the portholes of musical eras and genres explored in The Sodium Girl Ep. 1865 is the antithesis of monotony. Novel and innovative.

The Dopest Hip Hop In Existence Today...
author: Tyrone Anderson
If you haven't been inspired by eloquent production and stunning contrasts in hard core slammin beats since the early 90's then you need to listen to this album. This album is a true piece of hip hop art and for all you hip hop heads out there, you will vibe off this album no doubt. In fact, if you love music in general, you will vibe to this album. I listened to it and I am a lover of all music, especially hip hop, and the production as well as lyricism had me pounding my fist in the air out of the pure pride for raw beats and nasty lyrics that make you wanna riot. The track "I am Gangster, I am Monkey" is on some intelli-thug nastiness and the video is sick to death as well (peep it on YouTube if you haven't seen it). I snooped around and found the video right here… definitely check that out. "Mom Says" is also a beautifully produced song with live guitar and a beat that I could see a lot of people diggin even if they don't enjoy hip hop, the kid is that smooth and ill with his beats. The track "Dying Glow" brings one of the most thug beats I have heard in hip hop… this beat really slams that hard, and the amazing thing about it is that it breaks down into two utterly different beats, both as raw as the other, both super slam. Also, be sure to peep the album art, also done by 1865 himself… the man does it all. All I can say is that I hope this cat gets signed or keeps makin music regardless cause he is crushin hip hop on a new level.
