Biography...
1971 mix an unusual blend of folk, traditional, and Americana roots music, creating a sound familiar enough to please your ears but unique enough to get their attention! 1971's sound "makes up for a delicious cocktail" wrote one scribe, while another wrote 1971 "trapped me in a trance." They have been compared to Tom Petty, Uncle Tupelo, and according to Leon House (SIAS Review) their song "Camera Shy" "sounded good" and reminded him of an Alt-Country version of the Foo Fighters.
1971 forge through powerful Americana songs that often hold melodic melodies and impressive three-part harmonies as the core element. Just beneath the surface of musicianship always lies a story being told. Each song is a crafted tale that would seem familiar to almost anyone's life. The topics range from love, loneliness, death, and longing, to substance abuse, eternal life, and occupational hazards!
At a live show 1971 hold your attention as they perform an emotional balled followed by an adrenaline filled Americana/Folk anthem reminiscent of old-timey gospel. Their live act is engaging as they constantly switch instruments and add a different dimension to each song. With intelligent song writing and unusual arrangements, 1971 often leave the listener craving more, of this traditional sounding but forward thinking, truly modern music!

good folk release
author: John Lowe
Every song is good both lyrically and musically. This CD features a healthy combo of good playing and good writing. The only song I'm not crazy about is the first one (strangely) it's a bit too "happy" for the CD I think - It's a very well written song, but maybe needed to be recorded more like the others..... but I love much of this music - do yourself a favor & buy a copy - it'll be a treat!

Love every single song!!!

*****I got this CD a week ago, and it hasn't left the player. I seriously love every song. Anybody out there that likes good harmonies wrapped up in folk music but complimented by underlying rock rhythm would appreciate this release. Great lyrics, great lead guitar parts, and strong mandolin leads too! It’s been a week and it hasn’t left the player, and I’m sure it’ll be in heavy rotation for a long time to come!
