notes
Every now and again, the world of music throws up something out of the ordinary, something that in its time, quality, and spirit just feels right. Tangerine's 2004 album "Songs For The Now and Others Forever" is undoubtedly one such record - it captures a timeless mood with songs of both emotional and musical depth. Deep alluring vocals backed by swirling guitars will continue the bands reputation of "Leaving you wanting more every time" according to Pittmusic.com
It's been a whirlwind kind of ride for Tangerine since bursting onto the music scene in late 2002. Their first, self-released, 6-song debut EP was critically acclaimed and their audiences immediately became fervent and loyal. "With great melodic hooks and engaging, mature lyrics, Tangerine has that intangible something that makes it stand out. This is an outstanding release by one of Pittsburgh's best new bands. Catch them while you can." - Pittsburgh Magazine
And "catch them while you can" is exactly what Tangerine did next. In just over a year the band completed multiple tours - both the East and West coasts, Canada and the Midwest. "There's no question that Tangerine has an allure about them," says Music Connection Magazine who also ranked their debut EP as "One of the top 25 U.S. demo releases of 2002". Rave reviews in national publications like Music Connection and Empire Magazine, riveting live performances, plus airplay on dozens of diverse radio stations contributed to the sell out of their debut Demo EP in 10 only months.
Despite their rigorous schedule, the band self-released a 3-song single previewing some of the material from "Songs For The Now and Others Forever" in fall of 2003. The Free Times cooed, "Tangerine is simply mesmerizing. With their breathtaking music and riveting live performances, this band is undoubtedly at the top of their game, and they've only just begun."
By early 2004 all 3 songs featured on their single earned airplay throughout the US and Canada on commercial, college and public radio so it's no surprise it too sold out before the full length hit the shelves. As the fast-paced journey continues there is little question that the unique sound and commercial acceptance of "Songs For The Now And Others Forever" will mark the firm establishment of Tangerine as a player in the music community. "Tangerine will almost certainly go far -- the band's already sparking industry interest, and in the Travis/Coldplay/Keane climate, why not? Songs for the Now and Others Forever is certainly as good as, say, most of [Coldplay's] Parachutes." - Pittsburgh City Paper
"Songs for the Now and Others Forever" is released in conjunction with Vochella Records and is available online and in select record stores.

One word...
author: Patrick...amazing!
a statement of intent
author: Lorraine Carpenter/The Sentimentalist MagazineLike a statement of intent, a cover of the Stone Roses "I Wanna Be Adored" opens the debut album by this Pittsburgh-based band, forecasting a 40-minute slice of the kind of rock that used to be called alternative, but is actually nothing of the sort. In fact, the chiming guitars and ethereal atmospherics that denote early 90s nostalgia recede somewhat after the discs second track (and return later, appropriately, with Look Back), shifting into mid-tempo, quasi-country gear for the remainder of the record. Its not unlike what the Cowboy Junkies would have sounded like had they been fronted by the singer from Wars "Low Rider." Bassist Deanna Dean sings the Stone Roses cover and returns to back up lead singer/guitarist Tony Matz, who has the deepest voice this side of the Tindersticks. A winning combination. --Lorraine Carpenter/The Sentimentalist Magazine
mazzy star and lou reed share mic time
author: dzpenClose your eyes, sway in your chair a little and imagine Hope Sandoval and Lou Reed hanging out above a smokey crowd in a little NYC club ... they smoke a few ciggies and purr out a few thoughtful and honest tunes ... the songs are soft and sexy but nearly all finish with a crescendo of guitars and drums -- that's Tangerine. Somewhat retro, but only in the hippest style. I really like "adored" and "elastic world."
great mood music
author: Vicki - jager music girlThis is their first full length CD and its very impressive. If you were looking for the TANGERINE EP that broke them with the national press it is out of print completely. The good news is that Now & Forever has *most* of those songs on it AND those songs have been remastered with a noticable quality improvement - especially on the vocals. For those of you not familiar with Tangerine - if you like to listen to the Verve, Toad the Wetsprocket, or Coldplay you will probably like Tangerine's Now & Forever. As a whole, this CD definitely has a unique atmospheric sound with the layered guitar effects(like pink floyd) yet the songs do vary enough to not be too ubiquitous. You will find that most are mid tempo'd rock ballads, each with its own personality. Tangerine's whispery lead vocalist (Matz) has always reminded me of Jim Morrison and this CD is no exception. The rather haunting baritone vocals are a staple in all of the songs. The remake of the Stone Roses tune (Track #1) is more melodic and produced than the original with the twist of it being recorded as duet(Dean/Matz). Yet the track keeps with the CD's sexy vocal themes and layed guitars. Again if you enjoyed/wanted to buy the "Tangerine" EP or like Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Church, Pink Floyd, The Verve you will be well satisfied buying this CD for your collection.
This is a must listen
author: Judy SepichI have listened to this CD about 30 times since I bought it last week. I absolutely love it. The vocals are sexy and its unlike anything I have heard. I liked it so much I bought a copy for a friend. If you like to listen to mellow sexy rock music with great guitar work you will like this CD.
